Chula Vista High School - Home of Champions!
Week 5 August 15th to August 21st
Message from the Principal
Hello Spartans,
We are looking forward to an amazing week at the Home of Champions. The fall sport season kicks off this week, with many of our student-athletes taking the field/court to represent Chula Vista High School. I invite you to come out and support them!
Also, this Thursday we will be hosting our Virtual Open House. We will be using Google Meets as the platform for our presentations, so please look for more information later this week on how to access your student's virtual classrooms.
Lastly, this Friday we will have our no-backpack day. This is a day dedicated to build positive relationships with our students, as well as boosting our Spartan School Spirit and Pride. It will be a minimum day with all students being released at 1:47pm. And yes, students do not need to bring and school supplies (no-backpack) on this day.
Have a great fourth week of school!
Go Spartans!

Did You Know?
Did you know that Chula Vista High School has an Equational Foundation? Founded in 2011, the Mission of the Chula Vista High School Foundation is:
The Chula Vista High School Education Foundation is dedicated to supporting the needs of all students at Chula Vista High School by:
• Providing financial support for projects and facilities
• Answering the challenges of reduced public school funding
• Enhancing community relations and support with local businesses
• Working with parents, the school and the community to enhance the educational experience for CVHS students
• Continued Traditions of Giving Back to CVHS
• Establishing a Forum for CVHS Alumni to support their Alma Mater
The CVHS Foundation is a non-profit organization staffed by committed volunteers to help bridge the gap between what our school has and what it needs.
If you would like to learn more about the foundation, or to make a donation, please visit their website:
https://chulavistahighschoolfoundation.com/
The Foundation held the inaugural Spartan Classic Charity Golf Tournament this weekend and it was a huge success. With over 80 golfers, dozens of volunteers and sponsors, this event definitely kicked off the year the right way. Thank you to all that played, volunteered and sponsored the event.
E-Hall Pass
Chula Vista high school will be implementing a new digital hall pass system this month that will allow educators and administrators to give hallway permissions to students, and to track activity in school hallways. The digital platform is called e-hallpass and is intended to improve the accountability and security of students and staff. Students will access e-hallpass via their laptop computers or personal device. The students’ requests will include both their planned destination and their wish to leave the classroom. This digital platform will be a consistent format for students wishing to visit the nurse, counselors and the front office. The will also support our attendance goals.
Alternative Household Income Survey
Dear SUHD Parents,
You've been invited to participate in a very important survey that will impact your child's school funding and support services next year. A school's State and Federal funding is based on the number of eligible Alternative Household Income forms that are submitted each year. This determines how much funding your child's school will receive the following year, which allows for implementation of academic support programs and resources to support student academic success.
Resources and benefits for your child include:
Academic supports: tutoring and intervention programs after school and Saturdays
Classroom supplies and instructional materials
Classroom technology equipment and instructional software
High Schools:
Waivers for high school college admission exams
Fee-reduced high school exams (AP and IB exams)
Fee-reduced college applications
This survey will include the following two questions and a required E-signature:
Number of people living in the home?
Total Monthly Income?
To access this survey log onto your district's Infinite Campus Parent Portal at Https://campusportal.sweetwaterschools.org and select the survey link in your inbox.
This survey will be accepting responses from 07/01/2022 until 06/30/2023.
Student Drop-off and Gate Locations
Gates will be open for students to enter campus at 8:00am. We will have four entry points with designated drop off areas for students. Those are marked on the map with a blue arrow:
#1 North 100, drop off point is the driveway in the front of the 100 building.
#2 South 100, drop off point is the parking lot in front of the GYM.
#3 Youth Center, drop off point is the Youth Center parking lot on L street.
#4 K Street Gate, drop off point is on K street.
These areas will also serve as pick up points for students after school. For the safety of all, please make sure you observe all traffic patterns and rules.
We ask that you not drive into the staff parking lot on K street to drop off your student. This creates a traffic jam with our faculty and staff vehicles as well as with our school buses.
SUHSD COVID Protocols
Please make sure you also familiarize yourself with our COVID protocols:
- When indoors vaccinated staff and all students are strongly recommended to wear a face mask.
- Unvaccinated staff and adult visitors must wear masks when in the presence of others indoors.
- In classrooms with immunocompromise staff or students, we are asking the classroom communities to please support each other by wearing masks when indoors.
An exception where staff or students will be required to wear masks at this point is after they are returning to school following exposure to COVID. These additional protocols are our best way to ensure we can keep our students and staff on campus and engaged in learning this school year.

Message from SUHSD Student Support Services
Dear parents/guardians of Sweetwater Union High School District students,
The department of Student Support Services welcomes you to the 2022-2023 school year and wishes your family a successful year. Student attendance is a strong predictor of student academic success. Please know we care about your student and believe if present, they can do well in school! Therefore, in our efforts to partner with you on ensuring your student's attends school, we would like to share what we can do together. First, we encourage you to download the Campus Parent application where you can set-up it up to notify you in real time if your student is marked tardy or absent. In addition, you can also receive updates to announcements, assignments, grades, schedules, and more. Using your parent portal account, you can adjust the method you wish to receive the notifications (text, email, phone call).
In addition, starting on Monday August 1, 2022, per state mandate, the district will start sending via email attendance letters to students' parents for students that have accumulated 3, 6, and/or 9 unexcused absences. Per district policy, parents or guardians have up to 30 days to excuse absences.
The department of Student Support Services encourages students to stay on track by making up their absences as appropriate and by completing any missed assignments.
Thank you for your cooperation!
