Cheatham Achieves

WORK BEGINS ON NEW TRANSPORTATION FACILITY
The Cheatham County School District is making progress on the new transportation facility. The land on Sweethome Road behind Sycamore High School is currently being cleared so construction can begin. The new facility will replace our current one on Thompson Road in Ashland City. This project has been in the works for many years and is needed as the current location is in a floodplain. The Cheatham County Commission approved the funding for this project in November 2020.
DISTRICT OFFERS TWO FOOD BANKS
Did you know that the Cheatham County School District has two food banks? One is at Cheatham County Central High School and the other is at Riverside Academy. The food is available for any of our students and their families. For more information on how to grab a box, call Family and Community Engagement Coordinator Claudette Fizer at 615-792-5664, ext. 5012 or email claudette.fizer@ccstn.org.
OPEN, OUT-OF-COUNTY ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN
The Cheatham County School District is currently accepting applications for open and out-of-county enrollment for students who wish to attend our schools in the 2021-2022 school year. Open enrollment is for families who live in Cheatham County and would like for their child to attend a school other than the one they are zoned for. Out-of-county enrollment is for families who live outside of Cheatham County and would like to request that their child attend one of our schools. Additional information and the applications are available here.
TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR SPRING SPORTS
As spring sports begin in our middle and high schools, the Cheatham County School District wants to remind everyone that all tickets must be purchased through GoFan. There will be no gate box for cash sales at any game. The tickets will go live for purchase on GoFan no earlier than two days prior to a game. Additional details can be found here.
NEXT BOOK WALK IS HEADED SOUTH
The next Book Walk is headed to South Cheatham County! The Cheatham County Literacy Council, in conjunction with the Cheatham County School District, will host the Book Walk on Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at L.L. Burns Park in Kingston Springs. The book, “Wacky Wednesday,” will be featured. Students and families will walk through the story in a series of book pages set up along the walking track. This is a free event and all families are invited to attend.
SCHOOLS CELEBRATE READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK
It’s Read Across America Week! Many of our schools are celebrating the week with special dress-up days. Pictured are Kingston Springs Elementary School students. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association, Read Across America helps motivate students to read and celebrates the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel – otherwise known by the pen name by which he authored children's books: Dr. Seuss.
SPRING BREAK IS MARCH 22-26
The Cheatham County School District will be closed March 22-26 for spring break. There will be no classes for any students during our break. Classes will resume March 29.
KINDERGARTEN, PRE-K REGISTRATION NEARS
Kindergarten and Pre-K registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in April. Kindergarten registration will start April 5, while Pre-K registration begins April 10. The Cheatham County School District will be announcing additional details in the coming weeks so please stay tuned to our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and our website (www.cheathamcountyschools.net).
DISTRICT WILL OFFER SUMMER SCHOOL
The Cheatham County School District will be offering a summer school program in June and July. The Tennessee General Assembly, during a special session in January, allocated funds for school districts across the state to operate summer schools in both 2021 and 2022 to remediate student learning loss due, in part, to COVID-19. Our schools will be identifying students to participate in summer school and sharing additional information with our families. Transportation and meals will be provided to students who participate. We will begin summer school June 7 and the elementary school program will run for six weeks and the middle and high school programs will operate for four weeks. We are excited about this opportunity for our students.
