February Newsletter 2023
Amy Belle Elementary
Principal's Corner
Dear Amy Belle Families.
January is typically a cold and snowy month, but we have had anything but a typical January! Our challenge this month was the wet and more mild temperatures that didn't allow for the students to enjoy the fun that snow brings. I was excited to see all of the snow this past weekend and am happy for the kids to be able to play in it as we enter February!
It was also very unexpected that we had to vacate the building last week due to our water issue. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff and families for working together to get the students home safely. Your flexibility on very short notice was greatly appreciated! We talk to our students about the importance of being flexible when something unexpected happens. This was a real life example that modeled to all students what it looks like to have to be flexible and problem solve! I know this was disruptive to many families, so your positivity and understanding was truly amazing! We have the best families at Amy Belle!
This month, we will move our character focus to honesty. As always, any time you can ask your child about the character focus or find opportunities to continue the conversation at home, we greatly appreciate it!
Report cards were released yesterday for all students 5K-5th grade to your Skyward account. Our 4K students have a hard copy of their progress reports. They will not be in Skyward, so look for them in their folders. Take the time to look at your child's progress and reach out to the classroom teacher with any questions. Working together is key for student success!
Thanks,
Katie Kohel
Counselor's Corner
During our Classroom Guidance classes, students in grades K-4 have been learning how to understand and recognize their own and others' feelings. They've been learning about 'Chill-skills' which are specific strategies used for calming down when they are experiencing big emotions. Using 'chill- skills' helps us manage strong feelings and helps us take back control without hurting anyone or anything.
In 5th Grade Guidance classes, our students have been preparing for a G-Talk Conference with the School Counselor and their parents. This conference will aid in the transition to Middle School and help students articulate their strengths and challenges as a learner. An email will be sent out soon for 5th-grade families to schedule their G-Talk for a date in March.
My email address is jrunde@gsdwi.org and my school extension is 1140. You can also visit my website to learn more about the Comprehensive School Counseling program at Amy Belle.
Thanks,
Jen Runde
Registration for 2023-24
Our 4K and 5K registration opened this week. Please complete the online registration if you have an incoming 4K or 5K* for the 23/24 school year. Please note that proof of residency and immunizations documents can be uploaded online, but birth certificates need to come into our office at Amy Belle to be verified in person. For more information on GSD's 4K program, please click here.
*NOTE: Online registration is just for new families entering the district. If you currently have a 4K student at Amy Belle, you do NOT need to go through the entire online registration process for them to enter 5K in the 23/24 school year. You will need to "verify" their attendance for 5K during the summer months. Information on how to verify their attendance for the next school year will come via email (in July), and is done through Skyward.
More enrollment information and specifics can be found here. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office at 262-628-7825.
