Dear NPS Families,
The School Committee today put forth a revised offer to the NTA. This is a fair and competitive offer that addresses the concerns that the NTA has expressed to the negotiating team and publicly.
Throughout the duration of the strike, we have presented increasingly competitive COLA proposals, even when compared to the highest-paying peer districts. Through the life of the contract, today’s proposal increases COLA for all employees by a minimum of 12%, with increases for Unit C aides ranging from 14% - 15% (depending on years of experience).
For example, in 2027, relative to today:
A teacher member making $62,116 today will make $81,599
A teacher member making $91,251 today will make $121,299
A teacher member making $120,172 today will make $135,277
A paraprofessional making $22.81/hr today will make $32.20/hr
A paraprofessional making $45.15/hr today will make $51.20/hr
This proposal requires compromise from the NTA and the School Committee, but it addresses the key priorities the NTA has named throughout this strike, including 12 weeks paid parental leave and a meaningful increase to Unit C compensation. It also upholds priorities Superintendent Nolin has articulated in her entry planning, priorities the union has also championed: reduced class sizes, improved access to electives, and increased social worker support for students.
Most importantly, it gets our students and educators back to school tomorrow. We call on the NTA bargaining team to accept this proposal.
Sincerely,
Newton School Committee
