Biddeford Primary School News
September 20, 2023
From the Desk of Margaret Pitts
We are off to an amazing start to the school year. Our afternoon drop-off and pick-up routine have settled down. During drop-off, we are asking that parents have students ready to exit the vehicle; adults, please stay in the car. This allows for our process to move along quickly. We are grateful to our Transportation Department for their hard work ensuring our students get home safely and our schedule stays on track.
Our school store is now open on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Students should check in with their homeroom teacher before purchasing from the store. Students need to be on time to be able to visit the store.
Attendance is very important to us here at BPS. I wish to remind families about the importance of regular school attendance and on-time arrival (see start times below). Even once-monthly absences have an impact on student outcomes. Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most beneficial ways that parents and caregivers can bolster the work that happens in our classrooms. Community building and learning begin right when your child walks into their classroom. Students are considered tardy after 8:00 a.m.
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Pitts
BPS Principal

Somedays
As part of the guidance and resiliency programs, Someday lessons will start in each classroom in September. Students will choose something they would like to see happen at school, and we work collaboratively with school stakeholders and the community to make it happen. Come back to this section next month to see photos of students on their "Someday"!
BPS Backpack Program
Each year BPS participates in the backpack program. The purpose of this wonderful provides school children with a bag of food every Friday, so they will have meals over the weekend. This is a confidential and free program. For more information, contact Jen Schauber at jschauber@biddefordschools.me. Or, if you would like your child(ren) to participate in the program, please fill out the form below. Each student will need a separate form.
Mabel the Therapy Dog
Please welcome Mabel, our new therapy dog at BPS! Mabel sure does love the students! Besides positively impacting student’s emotional well-being, therapy dogs also contribute to cognitive development. Some of the benefits of interacting with therapy dogs include; improved reading skills, enhanced executive-functioning and stimulating memory and problem-solving skills. Studies show that the very presence in an educational environment tends to improve the areas of attention, relaxation, and motivation. This helps in reducing stress levels that would otherwise affect learning.

Influenza (Flu) Clinic
We are partnering with Northern Light Home Care & Hospice to provide flu clinics to our students this year. Please click on Biddeford Primary School and complete the consent form. The flu clinic will be held on Thursday, September 28.
Parents must type something into all highlighted fields, so please use NA if it doesn’t apply. Although the vaccine is provided at no charge, there is a cost to administer the vaccine. We appreciate it if you included accurate insurance information. Children presenting with an incomplete form will not receive their vaccine. There is no out-of-pocket cost; those without insurance will be vaccinated with the appropriate form completed. All clinics will have injectable vaccines. In addition, FluMist (nasal spray) may be available at some clinics. We cannot guarantee it for all clinics. Unless you clearly mark which type of vaccine you prefer, and there is no contraindication to either type of vaccine, the nurse at the clinic will determine which type of vaccine to use for your child.
