Principal's Message
As we finish up our first full five day week of school, it has been excellent to see our students settle into their classes and new routines. Although some of the newness of school may have worn off, it allows us to build a great relationship with our students and understand the best way to help them learn.
Students in grades 2 & 3 as well as some grade 4s will participate in screens from Alberta Education over the next few weeks. This was implemented across the province last year and will continue this year. These literacy and numeracy screens provide valuable information about your child to their teacher around areas they are excelling in and areas they may need some more targeted supports. More information on the screens can be found at https://www.alberta.ca/early-years-assessments.
This week we have our Terry Fox run on Friday starting at 2:00. Parents and guardians are welcome to join us for the event. Be sure to bring your walking/ running shoes! Our junior high volleyball teams have started practicing and games will be coming up soon. A schedule should be coming out next week. Jr. Kindergarten starts on Tuesday, September 19th. It is not too late for any children to join the program! A friendly reminder that we do not have kindergarten on Mondays.
Our first school council meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 19th @ 3:30. All are welcome to join us to learn more about the school and be involved in school events! Also, if you are looking to volunteer in someway, our hot lunch program is looking for volunteers! Students love hot lunch days so the more volunteers we have the better! If you are interested in helping out or would like more information, please contact Carol Tymchuk at 780-795-7338 or the school office at 780-795-3782.
Have a great week,
Bailey Benson

School Council
School council is a great opportunity for parents and community members to be involved with what is happening in the school. Schools councils are there to suggest positive programs and events within NCS. They work together with the principal and the school to support and enhance student learning and experiences. Anyone (parent, guardian, grandparent, etc) that attends council meetings will be considered a part of the school council and will have a vote in decisions. Learn more about school councils here.
We welcome anyone who is interested to attend our school council meeting to be apart of a positive and encouraging space centered around student wellbeing! Our school council meeting is coming up on September 19th at 3:30!
