1. Principals' Message
Last week was a great week for volunteers at the school. We were pleased to have:
Chad Gardeski - assisted with our grade 5 boys empowerment group

Brad Moser & Joel Bouwman - revitalized our baseball field

Lucy Nordstrom - read with students

And that's just a ONE WEEK snapshot! It is no secret that our school really hums along because of the dedicated work of many in our community. Thanks for believing in ERE! We look forward to formally appreciating our regular volunteers in June.

2. Spring Family Dance & Food Fear Factor
Your School Council invites you to a Family Dance at the school.
Friday, May 12, 6-8 pm
At Ecole Rocky Elementary
Free Admission
Concession and Glow Items available for purchase
Try out FOOD FEAR FACTOR! Dietitian Merv Liebel will be on hand during the dance with several foods for people to try. Tantalize your tastebuds with some easy to acquire & healthy foods that you may not have tried before.
All children attending need to come with an accompanying adult. Bring the whole family!
The Earth Rangers brought some interesting animals to their presentation on April 20

4. School Field Trips
We have several field trips already on the calendar:

2/3H, 3/4S, 4K - Markerville Museum, May 25
3/4F & 4/5O - Fish Release at Twin Lake on June 6
Grade 4 - Agricultural Tour on May 11
Grade 5 - Pioneer on May 30, Trip to Calgary Telus Spark Centre, Wave Pool, and Heritage Park on June 1/2, Wetlands on June 19
We are so glad to have these experiential learning opportunities and appreciate the hard work of staff to organize these events. Field trip fees can be paid online via your School Cash account at: https://wildrose.schoolcashonline.com/
Please reach out to school admin if field trip costs are a burden for your family at this time. We can find a solution!
Thank you to everyone that has signed up as a parent volunteer. A friendly reminder that many of our field trip volunteers require a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerability Sector Check less than 3 years old on file at the school.

Book Fair Winners!
5. Trickster Theatre is coming, June 12-16
We are lucky to have Trickster Theatre booked for a residency June 12-16.
During the residency, 3 professional actors will work with the school to develop class presentations that will be presented at 2 pm and 7 pm on June 16. Every student and every class Grade 1-5 is involved. These presentations will be some of the best ever seen at ERE!
Our theme for the week is "Inspiration from Indigenous Authors". Each class has chosen a book and plan to bring the key theme of each book to life in physical theatre.
Please make arrangements for your child to be at the 7 pm performance on June 16.
Free tickets for the 2 pm or 7 pm show will be available for pre-order May 15-May 31. Each family will have access to 2 tickets. Additional tickets will be distributed to those requesting if available. Watch for the pre-order ticket form May 15.
The final performance will also be recorded for those unable to attend in person.
Special thanks to the Asokewin Friendship Centre and the WRSD FNMI Education Team for their support with this project.
6. Trickster Volunteers, June 12-16
Volunteer jobs include: load in, organizing props and costumes, sewing, cutting cardboard, painting, tech rehearsal, greeter, load out.

7. PreK & Kindergarten Registration is now OPEN
We are now accepting registration for 2023/2024 PreK and Kindergarten. Parent referrals are the best way to help us connect with families with 4 and 5 years to enroll.
2023/2024 Pre-K Program
For students who turn 4 in 2023.
The Pre-K program this year runs full day Tuesday/Thursday/alt Friday. The program is staffed with a certificated teacher. Program cost is $100 a month. Program subsidies are available for qualifying students. The program is capped at 18 students and is currently full. We have started a waiting list and exploring the viability of a second class.
2023/2024 English & French Immersion Kindergarten
For students who turn 5 in 2023.
Our English Kindergarten program runs full day Monday/Wednesday and alternating Fridays.
Our French Immersion Kindergarten program runs full day Tuesday/Thursday and alternating Fridays.

8. Custom School Supplies for 2023/24

The deadline to order is May 31, 2023. (Or August 1 with a $10 late fee)
This is a voluntary program. Families can also purchase school supplies on their own.
9. Hot Lunch & Milk Program
- June orders are now open and are due by May 20.
- Hot Lunch is offered on Mondays and Thursdays.
- The Milk Program offers white or chocolate milk available to order every day.
- The Grade 5s have added Hot Dog lunch days on some Fridays as a fundraiser for their Calgary Field Trip
- Note: If your child is not at school on a day they have ordered hot lunch, please advise the school prior to 10:30 am on how you would like us to handle the order. In the case of no direction, we will give the order to another student.
To Order Hot Lunch or Milk:
- Go to ere.hotlunches.net
- Click "Click Here to Register" (A new registration is required each year.)
- Enter Access Code REHL
- Complete the rest of the registration form.
- Click "Register Now" button at the bottom
- Follow the instructions to add each child at ÉRE
- Once your child(ren) are registered, click on "Orders"
Please write after school plans in the student agenda if different than usual.

- At our April 5 meeting, we discussed a Family Dance on May 12, the Peace Garden, working with Alberta Health on a Sugar Shocker presentation and Food Fear Factor, some early projections for next year, school budget, and Family Oriented Programming

- The School Council & Society are vitally important to a healthy school. The Council & Society coordinate enhancements at the school, advise the principal, assist with hot lunches, and coordinate some fundraising.

11. This & That
- Welcome JoAnne Barker! Mrs. Barker is working on her final EA practicum through Red Deer Polytechnic and has been placed with Mrs. Stewart's class for the month of May.
- Family Oriented Programming Presents Cycling Skills! May 19, 10 am in the ERE gym. This session teaches the basics of bike riding for first timers and intended for both both child and parents to attend together. The session will be led by occupational therapist Jan Gervais. Pre-registration required at the ERE office. Only 3 spaces left!
- Umbrella School Council meeting is May 16, 5 pm. Supper is included. The meeting is open to parents who wish to learn more about what school councils are doing throughout the region. Preregister with dawn.beeman@wrsd.ca
- We had another successful book fair raising $1974.37 of new books and products for the school. Thank you Mrs. Allen for coordinating and the community for your support!
- We are excited for the return of the Evening of French Entertainment featuring our French Immersion classes. If you haven't already, please pre-order your BBQ food
- Do you know someone who is looking for a full or part time job? Come work for us! We would love to have a few more people on our casual Educational Assistant and casual Custodial lists. Please see the Careers and Volunteer Opportunities section of the WRSD website. Applying online is quick and easy!
- Free breakfast is served every morning in our front foyer 8:20 - 8:40 am. All students are welcome to grab a bite to eat.
- If your child will be absent from school, please connect with our Student Attendance Line by phone 1-855-756-2797 or use the School Messenger App
- If at all possible, when paying for items like agendas, field trips or swimming, please pay through School Cash Online located at: https://wildrose.schoolcashonline.com/ This greatly reduces the chances of lost money or discrepancies in payments made.
