Tutorials are not required, but students are encouraged to see teachers during their scheduled tutorial times when they need extra help and support. Any tutorial needs outside of these scheduled times must be coordinated with the teacher.
Any student driving to school must have a student parking decal provided by the student center; violators will be towed at the owner's expense. See Ms. Anderson in the Student Center to obtain a decal. Parking passes are $25, exact cash or check made payable to PISD.
A VOE approved by PISD is needed for all students to take driver’s education, or to get a learner's permit or driver’s license. After the request is completed, the approved VOE will be emailed to the email address on the request. Be sure to check your "Clutter" or "Junk" mailboxes. Allow a minimum of 48 business hours for the request to be processed.
10th Annual Plano Mayor's Summer Internship Program
Beginning Monday, Feb. 6, Plano ISD sophomores and juniors may apply for the competitive Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program. Presented by Capital One, the eight-week “learn-and-earn” program, which runs from June 12–Aug. 4, provides teens with paid internships at some of the area’s most sought-after organizations, from national headquarters and government entities to small businesses, local charities and nonprofits. The deadline to apply is March 6. Students earn a minimum of $12 per hour working 20-40 hours per week.
Only the first 400 applications will be considered, so students are encouraged to apply early.
For questions or to apply, please visit planomayorsinterns.org.

Parking on Campus
This is a reminder that ALL cars on campus must have a parking tag visible hanging from the rearview mirror. Cars on campus without parking tags may receive a fine and/or be towed at the owner's expense. Attendance Information
Any time a student misses school resulting from personal illness, illness or death in the family, quarantine, weather or road conditions making travel dangerous, or any other unusual cause acceptable to the principal, the absence will be considered excused. Any student out of school for reasons other than those listed above will be considered truant, and the absence will be unexcused.
Please remember a student cannot self-report an absence.
ABSENCES DUE TO ILLNESS
If a student is ill and will be missing school please call Jasper’s absence hotline at
469-752-7400, press 3 to leave a message for Teresa Brown, our attendance clerk. If your student has tested positive for COVID, please also inform Nurse Dottie Jordan at 469-752-27409 or at dottie.jordan@pisd.edu
ABSENTEE NOTES
When a student is absent and returns to school, by state attendance laws, he or she must present a written note from the parent or guardian even if a parent or guardian called the attendance line. The note should include:
- Student name
- Student ID number
- Reason for the absence
- Date(s) of absence(s)
- Phone number where the parent or guardian may be reached
Notes from a doctor may be submitted in lieu of a parent note. Notes should be given to the attendance office before 9:00 a.m. on the day the student returns. After three school days, notes may not be accepted, and the absences may be deemed unexcused. Absences from school to extend holidays are discouraged. Be sure to check the school calendar prior to making travel arrangements or purchasing tickets. Excessive tardies and unexcused absences will result in truancy filings. See school board policy FEA Legal for more details.
CHECKING IN and OUT
If students must leave school during school hours, a note from the parent or legal guardian must be sent to the attendance office the morning of the absence, so the student can get a pass to leave the classroom. The note should state the time the student will be picked up. Anyone who picks a student up during the day may be asked for identification; students will not be allowed to leave campus with an individual who is not on record as being able to pick up the student from school or without explicit parent permission to release the student to another individual. Students must come to the attendance office to meet the parent or guardian who is signing the student out. Upon returning to school, a note excusing the absence must be turned into the attendance office. Students who become ill during the school day must report to the clinic. Students are truant if they do not check out properly. Students must sign in and out with the attendance office even if the student is leaving during passing periods.
FAMILY VACATIONS/TRIPS/ EXTENDED ABSENCES
Students must get advance approval from their administrator in order for make-up work to be allowed and for planned extended absences. A student's parent or guardian should submit an absence request form to the administrator at least one week prior to the absence in order for allowable make-up work to be considered. Approval is granted on a case-by-case basis. These forms can be obtained from the attendance office. When allowed, students will be expected to make up all of their work in a timely manner.

The form can be picked up from Coach Zastoupil. The form authorizes the student to drive themselves only; no passengers are allowed in the car. The form will be approved by various PISD staff members and will ask the athlete to provide two contact phone numbers (not the student), their sport, vehicle description, license plate number (no temporary tags), and a parent signature. If you have any questions, feel free to call or email Coach Zastoupil at 469-752-7460 or richard.zastoupil@pisd.edu .

Meal Benefits Eligibility Expiration
Students who qualified for free or reduced-price meals at the end of last school year are eligible to participate at their current eligibility status for the first 30 calendar days of the 2022-2023 school year.
