Keeping you informed on important dates and information.
WELCOME BACK!
We hope everyone was able to spend some time over Thanksgiving break (whether it was in person or over Zoom) with the people you love. It is hard to believe tomorrow we will be turning our calendars to December and the last month of 2020.
As a reminder, we only have two full weeks in December as the week of December 7 has early release days due to Parent/Teacher conferences and then the week of December 21 will be a short week due to the start of the holiday break. We will be sure to keep the schedules for those different weeks in the newsletter for you to reference.
Term 1 grades will be made available for you to view this Wednesday, December 2 at 2pm and you will be receiving an email as a reminder as well when the grades are in PowerSchool.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Nipmuc Parent-Teacher Conferences are only a week away! As a reminder, these will be held virtually next week on December 8 from 6-8pm and December 9 from 12-2:30pm.
Teachers are reaching out directly to parents with sign-up documents where parents can sign-up for 10-minute time slots to meet with individual teachers. Teachers will share their individual meeting links to access the conference on the sign-up form.
If you would like to schedule a time to speak with your child’s school counselor during the conference time frames you can sign up by utilizing their names below.
Additionally, Nipmuc's School Resource Officer, Isaiah Poxon, will be available on December 9 from 12pm - 1:00pm. You can drop-in to say hello to Officer Poxon by clicking on this link during the 12pm - 1:00pm timeframe on Wednesday, December 9.
Help Our Seniors - Collecting Flashlights, Batteries and Phone Chargers!
The National Honor Society is collecting donations for the Town of Upton Disability Commission. During the recent October power outage, some elderly residents throughout Upton lacked essential items including flashlights, batteries, and phone chargers. In order to support our senior population for possible power outages in the future, the National Honor Society is collecting flashlights, batteries, portable chargers, and chargers for all types of phones. These items will allow elderly residents to feel safer and cope better with any future power outages. Any donations can be dropped off in the blue donation bin found in the front foyer of the main entrance of Nipmuc.
NHS is excited to partner in this effort with the Town of Upton Disability Commission which was formed in 2017 with the goals of ensuring programs, meetings, and employment are available for persons with disabilities, ensuring places of business and agencies are accessible for persons with disabilities and to advocate for the rights of those with disabilities among many others. More information about the Town of Upton Disability Commission and their goals can be found here.
Nipmuc’s Chapter of the National Honor Society thanks you for your contributions!
A Message from the Nipmuc School Nurse
Per the MA Department of Public Health, influenza immunization will be required for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12, and colleges and universities. The new vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All MURSD students will be expected to have received a flu vaccine by December 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 influenza season, unless either a medical or religious exemption is provided. Also exempted are K-12 students who are homeschooled and higher education students who are completely off-campus and engaged in remote learning only. This new flu immunization requirement to enter school in January is in addition to existing vaccine requirements for all those attending child care, preschool, K-12, and colleges and universities in Massachusetts. Elementary and secondary students in districts and schools that are using a remote education model are not exempt.
Please forward documentation of your child’s flu vaccine to the school nurse prior to December 31, 2020.
Please click here for more information on the flu vaccine requirement.
