Learn Well. Live With Honor. Go Spartans! May 2023
Message from Mrs. Ricks
Hello, Bixby 9th Grade Families!
Here we are in May with just three short weeks of school left. I remember so clearly seeing our students walk the campus before school started with their new schedules, full of excitement and perhaps a little apprehension, as they reconnected with friends, looked for their classes, and met the teachers who were just as excited to meet them, too! Now at the end of this school year, I see a confident and amazing group of students prepared to transition to Bixby High School to continue to pursue their aspirations. I am so proud of them!
I recently read an article titled "10 Most Effective Ways for Students to Avoid Classroom Distractions," by Dr. Heena Rachh. In this article, she discusses the importance of students keeping phones put away or on silent as this distraction not only makes completing assignments take longer, but it also makes actual learning take longer. Constant distractions affect concentrations spans, and students have to keep refamiliarizing themselves with what they are studying every time they get pulled away by a distraction. Switching between tasks caused by distractions also leads to mental fatigue. An example she provides is that the kind of language required to write an essay is different than the language needed to reply to a friend's message that pops up during study time. It's so important for our students to maximize their learning opportunities by staying focused and finishing strong.
I want to say again how much we appreciate each of you and it has truly been a privilege to be a part of your student's high school years. I always wish continued success for each of our students and if there is anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to let us know!
