Managing and Prioritizing Tasks
10/1/19
Now that your student has had a written planner for a couple of weeks you need to check to see how they are doing with writing stuff down (hopefully you have already been doing that, accountability is key). It can be hard to break habits, but it can be done. And if we are wanting different results when it comes to homework, then we have to be willing to change what we are doing. This week I want to talk about a five-step process for managing tasks. This came from the book Social Media Wellness by Ana Homayoun.
Write down all upcoming assignments for each class available on the night assigned
Add any tests, long term projects, or essays by writing them at the top of the day they are due
Add in any sports activities, family events, appointments, and social happenings
Schedule blocks of time for homework (We will talk more about how to maximize that time next week)
Number assignments in order of priority and check them off when completed
Using these five steps will help your student get the most important things done first. It will also help them because they know they have a plan for their time so they won’t stress about getting things done. Without a plan, things won’t get done. Next week we will discuss strategies for how to complete homework efficiently.
