Academic Highlights:
- Math- We will begin Unit 5, Subtracting within 100 using strategies. We will cover how to subtract by counting backward on a numberline, adding up to subtract, and breaking apart numbers to subtract.
- Reading- Authors Purpose-We will be discussing how to identify an Author's purpose when writing (Persuade, Inform, or Entertain) a book by figuring out whether the author is trying to give us information about a topic, attempting to get us to do or believe something, or whether they are telling a story in a way that is enjoyable.
- Social Studies- We will continue our study of important figures in history by learning about Abraham Lincoln and the impact he had on society.
- Writing- Writing about our opinions and supporting them with reasons/evidence. We are writing letters to our friends/family members about the books we have read. We will be sharing our opinion of the books we have read and the reasons we did or did not enjoy them. We will also be using a rubric as a guide to reflect on our own work as we write about our opinions.
- Spelling-The next cycle of new spelling rules and words began on February 5th, an A day. A spelling list was sent home on Tuesday, February 5th with your child's spelling pattern and red words. The spelling test will be on Wednesday, February 13th.
Show and Tell!
We would like for this time to be purposeful in getting to know each other even more. We would love to see items students have created, pictures, educational items, or items related to a special interest, activity or hobby. We request that your child not bring toys. We also ask that the item be able to fit in their backpack or a gift bag. Please feel free to reach out if you are unsure or have questions about a specific item.
We're very excited! Below are the names of the students for this week!
