November 2023

New in November

As the weather cools down, we've begun prepping the gardens for winter. We've also started our Farm to School lessons at Courtade and Buckley. We will begin our SNAP-Ed (nutrition) lessons at Buckley and Northport this month.

Buckley

A great start to Farm to School lessons at Buckley. Students harvested 100 onions from the garden! As well as zucchini, cucumber, carrots, and green beans. Fourth grade learned about food miles and made a pesto with greens from the school garden. Third grade helped us save seeds from the garden to plant next year (see photo).

Courtade

The Pop-Up Farmers Market was a success, a few teachers turned their market purchases into applesauce and stone soup! Farm to School lessons kicked off with plant parts and food miles. Students enjoyed eating a "whole plant" and garden greens pesto.

Northport

September's harvest made a reappearance in the October taste test. Students enjoyed roasted kohlrabi and carrots, some saying it was their top favorite food! They also had a successful Pop-Up Farmers Market, our final school market of the season!
