From the Principal
Please check PowerSchool often to keep informed of you child's progress in each of his/her classes. If you need help logging in to PowerSchool, please contact the school.
I encourage you to make sure your children are in school. Attendance is critical to students' success. Students who are consistently in school have better grades and do better on local, state, and national tests. It is important that parents and schools work together to make sure every child is in school.
Finally, I found an interesting article about essential habits students need to cultivate to be successful in school. The link is below. I encourage you and your child to read and discuss it.
Have a great weekend!

Shared Scholarship Document - 2024 scholarship document
This is a long list of scholarships that we have had in past years. Typically, scholarship season does not happen until the 2nd half of the year. Don't panic that you have to get through this by the weekend. At the end of January or beginning of February, the Knox Foundation will open their application. This is one application for many scholarships. Local scholarships and others tend to come available during April and May.

Who needs a nap?
As we all adjust to the “back to school schedule”, it is important to remember to get enough sleep. During the summer break bedtime often gets pushed to late night hours and the wake up time can be late morning, or even afternoon! Studies have shown that lack of sleep contributes to a higher risk of obesity, diabetes, injuries, poor mental health, and problems with attention and behavior. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) analyzed data from a 2015 national and state Youth Risk Behavior Survey. It showed that 6 out of 10 (57.8%) middle school students and 7 out of 10 (72.7%) of high school students did not get enough sleep on school nights.
The CDC has the following sleep recommendations:
*students between the ages of 6-12 need 9-12 hours of sleep in a 24 hour day
*students between the ages of 13-18 need 8-10 hours of sleep for a 24 hour day
Our students' days are full of school, homework, athletics, jobs, home responsibilities, etc. It is exhausting! Setting a sleep schedule is an important component in your students' success. Check out the link below for ideas on how to make a schedule that works for your family.
