Spaulding Elementary
December 2023 and January 2024
3rd Grade Winter Concert
Join us December 13th to see our 3rd grade students perform winter songs in the Spaulding Gym.
Riley, Powell, Greenberg, Kendall, Tunison’, Rohrkemper and Nester’s classes will perform at 7:00. Students should report at 6:40.
Participating students are asked to dress nicely. If you have questions please contact the music teacher Ms. Sheppard.
Attendance
As we return from the Thanksgiving break, we are grateful to have everyone back at school and into the school routine. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security for students.
Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn, connect with peers and teachers, and benefit from classroom instruction. It is super important that students are at school on-time every day. Did you know that every day missed is the equivalent to 1 day of ELA class and 4 days of math class? Although some absences are unavoidable, we encourage families to take steps to keep your child healthy and send them to school unless they are truly sick. When possible, please plan appointments and trips outside of school hours/days.
As an extra incentive to be at school on-time each day, we will have a drawing for prizes at the end of the day on December 15th. All students who have Perfect Attendance from now until Winter Break will be entered into the drawing.
Goshen Schools will be closed December 18 - January 1 for Winter Break. We look forward to seeing you back at Spaulding when school resumes at 8:30am on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Pick Up and Drop Off
If you are dropping your student off in the morning, please pull all the way up, and let your student out of the car on the right hand side. Students should exit the car when the car is stopped anywhere in the yellow painted area. Please do not park in the parking lot and send your student across traffic. Please do not pull around cars in line to pull out or pass cars waiting in line. Parents need to remain in their cars when dropping off students. Please help us with these safety concerns to keep you and our students safe when entering the building.
Thank you for using the Pik My Kid app to announce yourself, if you are unable to announce please be sure to have your car tag.
Upcoming Events
Students will have an opportunity to do some holiday shopping at Santa's Shop on December 7th and 8th. Please be on the lookout for information from your child's teacher regarding which day.
Students will be taking their winter benchmarks before Winter Break. Please encourage them to do their best on the reading and math MAP assessments as well as Acadience assessments. These tests give our staff the information we need to support each student at their individual level.
Counselor's Corner
Students learned about how to build friendships for our 4th 2nd Step Lesson in the Library! Building friendships consists of 3 steps: 1) say hello and give a compliment, 2) ask questions and take turns sharing, and 3) find a commonality to come back to. This skill can be used to make new friends or deepen the friendships students already have!
Our Where to Wednesday event is coming up on December 5th! Students will get to explore some careers that may interest them and learn about the “3 Es” after graduation: education, enlistment, or entering the workforce. Feel free to start a conversation at home about future careers! It becomes even more meaningful when students hear about the careers held by the adults in their lives!

Inclement Weather
When there is the possibility of snow, sleet, or other inclement weather, the Goshen Local School District takes several steps to monitor the situation. Travel conditions are checked in the district starting at 4:30 A.M. In order to allow sufficient time for the media to broadcast our messages, we must reach a decision and notify them by 5:45 A.M. This usually ensures that the message will be broadcast by 6:15 A.M. For your convenience, the district uses School Messenger to notify parents and staff by telephone of inclement weather conditions. Happy New Year
We have had a wonderful first half of the year at Spaulding. Our staff and students have had a positive outlook that I know will carry us to a very successful 2024. You may recall last year that I shared information about The One Little Word Project. This has become a tradition with staff at Spaulding, we all select our One Little Word to drive us through the new year. I have started to do this with my children as well and really enjoying having a positive word to fall back on when things feel hard. I encourage you to do this for yourself or with your family.
I hope you all have a restful and fun Winter Break, we can't wait to see you all in 2024!
