North Side Families,

We have been focusing on sharing what the students LOVE about North Side........I am sure you are not shocked, but it is not the curriculum that they love! They love the teachers and staff, they love the food, they love making friends, they love the after school activities and when their teachers make learning fun. Notice it really centers around relationships - our North Side team strives to model and show kindness and love for all of our students. Relationships with our students is the most important factor to success here at North Side!

We also feel relationships with parents and the community are very important and we know that this year has been different. We have not been able to connect like years past and we apologize for that! Please know that you are a vital piece to our puzzle and we can't thank you enough for the important role you play in your child's education. Here are ideas to help stay connected and involved with your child and school from home:

Hold evening conversations with your child about their day at school. Ask more specific questions such as - Who did you play with today at recess? What did you play? What did you eat for lunch? What was your favorite activity you did in class today? What specials did you have? Share something great or positive about your day with me.

Another idea is to start promoting kindness with your child(ren) at home and in the community. Ask your child to complete a chore for you or the neighbor, have them say positive things to themselves, they can say something nice to brothers or sisters, or they can call grandma/grandpa just to say hello.

Office Reminders:

1. The final material fees payment is due on February 15, 2021.

2. Yearbook orders and payment are due back by February 3rd.

3. Spring Pictures are Tuesday, March 9th.

2. Please remember that our school is still not fully open to visitors, please call if you need to come to the building and schedule an appointment to do so.

3. If your child is ill, please call our office and let us know by 9 a.m. if at all possible. Our office number is (260) 347-1354. If you believe the illness is Covid related, please ask to speak with Nurse Whitney. 4. Please contact the office by 1:30 p.m. if you need to make changes to your child's transportation home for the day. We cannot guarantee the changes when you call after 1:30 p.m. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THIS! Please note that the office phone may be on night ring during dismissal, please leave a message and we will call you right back as soon as dismissal is complete.

5. If your child is a car rider, please make sure to use your car tags each day.

6. If you need to change your child's bus or start bus transportation, please follow these steps:

Bus Change or Start Up Requests

If you need to change your bus location, please go to the North Side website, https://www.eastnoble.net/o/north-side-elementary, and follow these directions:

Click on the "Menu" at the top of the home page. Click the “For Families” tab and then the "Transportation" tab. When the drop down menu appears, you will see a link called “Transportation Change Request.” When you click that link, you will be taken to a form that you can fill out and submit electronically. It will notify transportation via email that a request has been submitted and they will begin working on fulfilling the request. Once arrangements have been made and confirmed with drivers, transportation will communicate the arrangements to parents.

Breakfast and lunch at East Noble are FREE for ALL STUDENTS until the end of the school year! THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!!! Please continue to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!!!

For our lunch menu, download the East Noble app below. Click on the school in the top right corner and tap on North Side. Once on North Side's page, tap the 3 lines at the top left corner and touch "dining" and you will find our lunch menu for each day of that week.

Attendance

As we have been back in school for a month now since winter break, please continue to communicate with the school on any absences. If the school does not hear from you, someone will be calling to confirm the absence. If you leave a message, please remember to be specific as to the reason for the absence. We have noticed an incline in students coming in tardy to school. Please help your child get to school on time to ensure they are getting the most out of their time at school. Letters will be sent out to those that are frequently tardy and those that are above 7 absences that are not because of Covid-19 or without a doctor note. For your child to get the best education possible, they need to be present in school unless they are showing symptoms of Covid-19. Thank you for your help with this!

Safety

Safety is a priority at North Side as well as every school in the East Noble School Corporation. We want each student, staff member, and visitor to feel safe when coming into our school. Please remember that all doors are locked during the school day. If you would need to come to the school, you may call and let the office know your reason for being at the school and someone will meet and help you at your vehicle.

We also practice drills every month to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case of an emergency. The month of January saw us practice a fire drill, shelter in place, and a lockdown. This month we will again practice a fire drill and lockdown.

Please contact me if you ever have any questions on the drills we practice or how we are keeping your child safe in our school environment during Covid-19 protocols.

Please take time to talk with your child(ren) about their school device and the importance of taking care of it. Keep it in a safe place and do not swing it around or hit it on things. If they have an IPAD, they need to leave the case on it and not attempt to take the case off.

We have had an influx of broken devices recently. We appreciate your help with this!

Parents - please continue to stay cautious of Covid symptoms and call me if you are unsure!
