A warm welcome to our newest Cornellians and welcome back to our returning members of the Cornell community! This is the first installment of our weekly Thrive @ Cornell newsletter for the 2021–2022 academic year.
This newsletter aims to support undergraduate, graduate, and professional students (and staff and faculty) with tips, resources, and events to help you thrive (not just survive) during your time at Cornell! Each week we will highlight resources and opportunities to support your overall health and well-being during the academic year. To have a healthy, vibrant community, we must all take care of ourselves and look out for one another, especially as we continue to live through the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. Building Resilience
This week we’d like to introduce you to the concept of building and maintaining resilience. The image below is depicting Cornell’s Resilience Pyramid — in other words, a guide to help you manage your stress and to continually replenish your resilience reserves so you are able to be flexible in the face of challenge and bounce back from pressure, stress or adversity. The habits, practices, and cognitive strategies in the pyramid are keys to building resilience and achieving academic and life success. Each week throughout the fall semester, this newsletter will highlight one or more of the various strategies included in the Resilience Pyramid.

Cornell Health
Cornell Health supports undergraduate, graduate, and professional students’ medical and mental health through collaborative clinical services and support for campus health initiatives. Student Disability Services, a department of Cornell Health, works to ensure all aspects of student life are accessible, equitable, and inclusive of individuals with disabilities.
Most Cornell Health services require an appointment. To make an appointment, you can call during business hours at 607-255-5155. Some appointments can also be scheduled online using the secure patient portal, myCornellHealth, which can be accessed from the website: health.cornell.edu
Currently, added OSHA-required COVID-19 safety precautions are in place at Cornell Health as they are at other medical facilities nation-wide. All students, staff, and faculty coming to Cornell Health must complete the Daily Check health assessment screening and show their result at the building entrance. Once inside, surgical masks (provided upon entry) and physical distancing are required, regardless of vaccination status.

COVID-19 Public Health Requirements for Campus
Please continue to do your part to help us protect the Cornell and local community from COVID-19. As a reminder, all Cornell community members, regardless of your vaccination status, are required to wear a mask indoors (unless you are eating, sleeping, or in a private office or other private space alone) and outdoors. If you see someone who isn’t wearing a mask, you can remind them they need to put one on or let someone know who can ask them to wear their mask while indoors with others. Start the Semester Organized!
Use a semester calendar to map out all of the important due dates from your syllabi and events all in one place so you can identify the busy “crunch times” in the semester. Prioritizing and planning your work during those times is much easier if you know they’re coming. Check out the LSC website for more tips and ideas for how to study effectively.

BEAR Walk Fair in Collegetown
August 31, 2021 @ 6pm
Join the Office of Off-Campus Living in celebrating the start of the new year. Invited community members in the Collegetown, Ithaca, and Cornell community will connect with Cornellians and provide helpful resources. This fair kicks off a series of walks around the Collegetown area to deliver— door-to-door— important information about Off-Campus living and safety.

GSMU is seeking graduate mentors for the 2021-2022 academic year!

Graduate Students Mentoring Undergraduates (GSMU) is a program designed to support undergraduate students’ paths through academic life. GSMU strives to:
- Collectively create and maintain a safe space for the cultivation of open, authentic, and honest relationships with GSMU community members.
- Inform students’ pursuit of graduate studies by exposing them to and encouraging their exploration of different disciplines and post-baccalaureate journeys.
- Encourage students to reflect on their undergraduate experiences thus far and consider how to shape future experiences in service of their pursuit of graduate studies.
