North Scituate Elementary School
January 2024
A note from Mrs. Soccio
Welcome back and Happy New Year to all our North Scituate Families. During this holiday break, I hope everyone was able to refresh, rest, and be ready to start the new year strong.
We are well into the second trimester and approaching the mid-year benchmarking period. During this time, students will complete testing in both math and reading to assess their progress from the beginning of the year. AimsWeb Plus will continue to be used to assess students in grades K-5. As we know, this is only one way teachers assess student progress over the course of the year.
A friendly reminder, conferences will be held from 3:30pm-5:00pm on Tuesday, January 9th and from 6:00-7:30pm on Thursday, January 11th. If you have questions about your conference time or need to schedule an appointment, please contact Ms. Foster at jennifer.foster@scituateschoolsri.net or 647-4110.

Announcements & Reminders
Food items are discouraged from being sent into school due to multiple severe food allergies. Any food items brought into school must be approved by Mrs. McCann one full week prior. You can email Mrs. McCann at Colleen.McCann@scituateschoolsri.net.
- As a reminder, if your child is going to be absent please send a note, call the Front Office or email our new Secretary at jennifer.foster@scituateschoolsri.net.
If you have a change in dismissal for your child, please alert the Front Office before 2:00pm, if possible. This allows us time to inform the teacher and student of the change.
- Please date notes that are sent to school with students. If you are writing a note about dismissal, please write the full name of the person picking up your child.
- Clearly mark water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. with student's name.
WEATHER CHANGES
As the cooler temperatures arrive, it is important that your child is dressed appropriately for school. Students will be going outside for recess with temperatures 28 degrees or above. Please ensure your children are dressed for these conditions, and have a sweatshirt or jacket in their backpacks.

Classroom Highlights
Grade 1
Grade 2
Grade 3
Students in Mrs. DiLuglio's class created Holiday Poems for their families based on their own holiday memories/experiences. Students wrote, edited, typed, and decorated their poem to give to their families this holiday season.
Grade 4
Students in grade 4 worked in teams to construct a reindeer out of a balloon and we raced them! They loved this fun teamwork activity!
Grade 5
Door Decorating Contest
Classrooms were encouraged to decorate their classroom doors with their grade level partner. Two of the rules were that students must help and must have a holiday theme. Mrs. Soccio was the judge. She had such a hard decision that she selected 4 of her favorite doors- Kindergarten & 1st grade doors. Thank you to all of the classrooms that participated in this fun contest!
During intervention, students worked on Christmas Tree fact families, addition/subtraction reindeer games, and counting money!
