Eccles Weekly News
September 29, 2022
Dear Eccles Families,
Every year our school and district sets goals based on feedback from the many stakeholders invested in our schools, and based on student learning.
One of our goals this year centers on Community Engagement. We are taking several actions to increase our engagement with the community and improve our communication. We want you to know what we are working on as a school and partner with you in our efforts to help all students grow.
We have a couple of great opportunities coming up for Eccles families to connect with the Eccles community.
The first opportunity is the Color Dash next Thursday, October 6! This is a joyful opportunity to exercise and play with other members of our school community, welcoming all students, families (incl. siblings) and friends together. It was a great success in the past and we look forward to it again this year. I hope to see you all there!
The second opportunity is fall conferences the week of October 17-21. Our teachers are excited to meet with you and share what they have learned about your child over the first six weeks of the school year. We also know that your insight is critical to what helps your child be successful. We look forward to partnering with you this year and conferences are a great opportunity to do so. You can sign up for conferences in the section below.
Sincerely,
Kelly
Below are highlights and school updates for you to know…

Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences
Conferences will take place the week of October 17-20, and you can get signed up now. Visit PTCFast.com and follow the prompts to register with your child’s teacher—or multiple students can be done at the same time. If you have questions or concerns about availability or accessibility, please reach out to your student’s teacher via Remind.
Bus Route Changes
Student Transportation of America (STA) has adjusted bus routes. For the latest route information, we encourage you to download the Ride 360 app and check it regularly, or view the routes online. Routes are updated weekly at least through September but will be updated less frequently thereafter, as we anticipate the route adjustments decreasing.
If you have questions, you may contact our office at 503-263-7120, or you may contact the STA office directly at 503-263-1007 or CanbySchoolBus@ridesta.com.
To communicate a concern or complaint, you may use this form: Bus Transportation Complaint
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to get students to school safely.
After-School Child Care
Great news! We have open spots available in our new After-school Child Care Program. We will now fill those spots on a first-come first-served basis. To register, please fill out this Child Care Interest Form, and program director Molly Martinez will contact you with next steps.
Lost & Found is Growing
Please remember to label your students clothes with their last name so that staff and students can easily find items left at school. Our lost and found is growing fast (not an exaggeration—one wagon was filled in one day). All items will be donated to The Canby Center at the end of Winter Break, Spring Break, and the last day of school.
How can you track a missing item down? Parents and students may come in before school starts, or students may come to the office during one of their recesses. Our lost and found is currently located down the hall and an office staff member can take you down to look.
We want to help you get to know who we are. Each week we will highlight a couple of staff members. Enjoy getting to know a little bit about us!
Meet Mr. Carrico!
Mr. Carrico is currently in a vivacious state of mind! He is part of our 6th grade team and he has been teaching for the Canby School District for 17 years. You will frequently hear him say, “If you could be so good as to…” He lives with his wife Sarah, his son Max, his daughter Ella, and his golden retriever Marley. Some of Mr. Carrico’s favorite authors are Jack Kerouac, Julia Kristeva, Edgar Allen Poe, and HP Lovecraft. He highly values honesty in his friends. You will see Mr. Carrico every morning outside his door greeting students. Say, “Hi!” the next time you see him.
Meet Mrs. Parker!
Mrs. Parker is currently in a grateful state of mind. She has been working for the Canby School District for 15 years. You will frequently hear her say, “Right? Does that make sense?” Mrs. Parker lives with her husband Justin who is a social studies teacher in Salem, her 5th grade son Caleb, her 4-year-old son Camden, and Lily, a very sweet black cat. Mrs. Parker has several favorite authors. She loves to read! She highly values loyalty in her friends and her hero is her grandmother who is 93. Say, “Hi!” the next time you see her.

Volunteers
Looking to volunteer in your student’s classroom or for upcoming events? If you did not complete this process last year or are a new incoming family, an application must be submitted through the Canby School District.
Here’s what you need to know.
- This must be pre-arranged with the teacher and/or specialist that you are assisting.
- All new* volunteers must be registered and pass a background check in order to volunteer for any classroom, field trip, or activity on-site.
- All volunteers must sign in and out upon entry and exit of the school building.
We look forward to having you join us!
Meals at School
We are excited to welcome back our broadened meal selections this year, including the salad bar! Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-price meals, and now offer expanded income guidelines to qualify more families.
If you plan to have your child eat school-provided breakfast or lunch, please fill out a Meal Application online at https://www.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp - Our district ensures that our nutrition programs are easily accessible to all families.
> Click here to put money on your child's lunch account <
Meals will always be provided to students, no matter their application status or meal plan balance.
Health Reminders
As school begins and we are starting to enter the cold and flu season, please remember to review our district and school health 'stay home guidelines'. If you have any questions about whether a student should stay home, please don't hesitate to contact the office and we can put you in touch with our Health Assistant or District Nurse. We appreciate your help in keeping not only your student, but all other students & families healthy this school year.
***Please remember to send in any medication for your students, which need to be signed in with our Health Assistant (prescription, non-prescription, inhalers, etc).
