Sometimes It's Hard At First
This morning I went on a long bike ride. I went for several reasons: 1. to get out of the house, 2. because I very much needed the exercise, and 3. I was hoping to get some inspiration on what to write about this week. As I pedaled down Lorraine Cowan Road I could feel the wind pushing me back some, but I kept going. When I made it to HWY 90, I initially turned left towards Biloxi and the ride started to feel a bit easier because the wind was to my back. However, I knew if I went a few miles down the beach the journey back would be more difficult as I would be fatigued and would be riding against the wind. So after going about 15 feet, I quickly turned my bike around toward Gulfport and I could immediately feel the wind blowing hard against me. I kept going and going, telling myself that when I turned around to head home it would be easier. (I'm always talking to and psyching myself up when I workout.) I convinced myself to go several miles down the beach, working against the wind with sand blowing all in my face. It was not the most fun ride and I was tired. I eventually turned my bike around and started my trek home. Sure enough, the wind was now pushing me along and it was a much, much easier trip home and I was glad that I didn't take the easy way out at the start. I tell you all this because it made me think about when we are trying to accomplish a task, such as switching to e-learning, how hard it can be initially. It can feel like we are pedaling against the wind. But, if we put in the hard work first instead of taking the easy way out it will be smooth sailing once we get through the tough stuff. I encourage you to persevere when things seem difficult on the front end. Your hard work will pay off and it will get easier.
