Instructional Time/Five Day Week Listening Sessions
We are happy to report that our Community and Staff Listening Sessions had a large number in attendance. A strong turnout indicates engagement and interest in our instruction time discussion. A diverse and engaged community can contribute valuable perspectives and ideas, which we value.
Listening sessions are offered to foster open communication between community members, staff, and leaders, allowing for the exchange of ideas, concerns, and feedback. It's a positive sign that people are actively participating and sharing their thoughts. This kind of interaction can contribute to building a sense of unity, understanding, and collaboration.
Moving forward, the feedback will be shared on our website after it's compiled. A committee will also be formed to analyze the feedback to identify key themes, concerns, or areas of consensus to make a recommendation to the board by March.
Veterans Day Assembly
A meaningful and patriotic Veterans Day assembly was held at Central Linn Elementary on November 9th, 2023. The presence of 22 veterans and the participation of various groups, including Blue Notes and elementary students, contributed to a memorable and respectful event.
Blue Notes, sand "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" accompanied by students from 3rd to 6th grade. Kindergarten students also had a role in the assembly, singing a special patriotic song to honor our Central Linn veterans. The participation of American Legion Post 184 in posting the colors, along with the special speaker Joshua Hite from the U.S. Navy, further enriched the assembly by providing a sense of tradition and firsthand experiences from the military.
The reading of "Flanders Field" by Amelia Neal and the conclusion of the event with Taps played by Central Linn High Schooler, Daine Offutt, help add solemnity to the occasion.
Overall, students across all grade levels created a sense of community and appreciation for the service of those in the military. We want to send a special thanks to Mrs. Sandy Brown, a US Army veteran, for organizing the successfulVeterans Day assembly!
LT HITE, USNR with wife Mrs. Ashlee Hite and daughter Aaliyah Hite pose with Mrs. Sandra Brown (R). LT HITE delivered the keynote address during the Veterans Appreciation assembly.
Kindergarteners from Mr. Koehnen's and Ms. Baney's classes sing a patriotic song to our Central Linn area veterans.
Students from Mr. Joe Demianew's "BLUE NOTES" choir pose with Mrs. Sandra Brown (US Army veteran, Central Linn School Dist employee, M/C) prior to singing their rendition of "God Bless America"
Elementary Students Enjoying the New GaGa Ball Pit During Recess
It's wonderful to hear that elementary students are enjoying the new GaGa Ball pit during recess!
The GaGa Ball pit is typically a circular or octagonal enclosure where players try to eliminate each other by hitting a ball at each other's legs while avoiding being hit themselves. It's a fast-paced and inclusive game that allows children of various skill levels to participate.
The benefits of incorporating such activities during recess are numerous. Beyond the physical exercise and coordination development, GaGa Ball promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and social interaction. It's a game that encourages fair play and friendly competition. In addition to the physical benefits, the GaGa Ball pit can also contribute to a positive school environment. Providing students with enjoyable and structured activities during recess helps create a sense of community and can contribute to a more positive and inclusive school culture.
Overall, the introduction of the GaGa Ball pit seems to be a fantastic addition to recess times and we are grateful to our PTC, community donors, and facility staff for helping plan, purchase, and install the pit for children to enjoy.
CLES WON SOME FRIENDLY COMPETITION AGAINST CLHS
Congratulations to our Central Linn Elementary for winning the canned food drive competition against our Jr/Sr High School!!
A school canned food drive competition between classes is a fantastic initiative that not only encourages friendly competition but also promotes a sense of community and empathy. Each school was challenged to bring in as much canned food as they could before the November 9th Veterans Day assembly. We are grateful to all students, staff, and families who helped to support our local food bank, Sharing Hands.
As a reward, all CLES students will be rewarded with an ice cream sandwich before winter break!
Animal Science Field Trip
Mrs. Parker's Animal Science class visited Jeff and Julie Cone's farm to assist in vaccinating and conducting health checks on their spring calves. Students were able to move the cattle from larger to smaller pens, into the chute, and administer appropriate dosing of vaccines or medications as necessary. Students learned how herd management is a year-round endeavor and that health management is of key importance to a successful market animal production operation. Overall, it was a successful trip, and want to thank the Cone family for allowing us the use of their facilities.
Spanish Culture Day and UofO College Visit
29 students from the CLHS Spanish classes have one visit that counts towards graduation requirements. Here are some highlights of their visit:
29 students learned about Dia de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead and attended an art exhibit at Maude Kerns Art Center.
They were introduced to other cultures and practices which fosters empathy and understanding of others.
They were exposed to the University of Oregon campus and had an overview of the programs offered and student life.
Seven native Spanish speakers participated.
One EL student who is a beginning learner was also able to fully participate and attended the Spanish tour with other native Spanish speakers. He was engaged and shared how they celebrate the holiday in his home state of Mexico.
Many also connected with a recent Central Linn graduate who is now attending the U of O.
Many also had an opportunity to meet with Mr. Rise, a former math teacher who now teaches at U of O.
They finished off the experience by having a Jamba Juice and debriefing the visit.
At the art museum, they received several compliments from the tour guides that our students were respectful and engaged in the tour.
