SISD November Technology Report
Technology Department 2020
District Core Network Upgrades and Wireless Upgrades
As November comes to an end our installation of the new networking switches and wireless equipment will begin. Our current contract with GCI includes a refresh of equipment every 5 years. The terms of the contract include the refresh of the equipment and network engineering while SISD provides the installation.
Each site will have boots on the ground to complete the replacement of old equipment. During this process matching, district equipment will undergo software updates and replacements as necessary.
E-Sports and Computer Systems
To facilitate student activities during an unusual year due to COVID-19, the district has looked in to alternative activities. E-Sports is a popular activity among our current student body. The Technology Department and the Activities Department have been working together to ensure there are activities for our students that can transcend whatever this unique year brings.
Using Computer Systems as a class to learn the practical Computer Science students will be building the gaming computers to support E-Sports at SISD. This helps create a culture around technology and show students a fun and engaging implementation of critical work skills.

The team building and community this creates will leave a lasting impression on the district and the community of POW. The goal is to show students how to be self-sufficient in their computing world and how to support those around them. The success of building the computer will then lead to team building on the "Digital Field".
Hydaburg, Craig, and Petersburg are our close neighbors who are also competitively playing this year nearby.
