A very special thank you to our reading specialists, Mrs. Nicole Silva and Mrs. Pamela Roberts, for the outstanding job they did presenting Early Literacy at GWS during the School Committee Meeting on Tuesday evening. We are grateful to our School Committee Members and our Central Office Administrators for allowing Governor Winslow School to host the Spotlight on Excellence.

It is well documented that early literacy intervention is key to later academic success. At GWS, early literacy is at the heart of our instructional programming. In grades K-2, students participate in daily phonological awareness and phonics lessons in addition to readers' workshop instruction. With a focus on early literacy skills, our classroom teachers, reading specialists, and teachers of special education are able to use data to meet the needs of every student, in every classroom, every day. Our approach to planning and instruction allows our teachers to form fluid groups that focus on each student's needs and intervene in a systematic and targeted way. This team approach to data-driven instruction is what makes our students shine.

We are looking for grade level volunteers to organize the Pizza Bingo Raffle baskets. If you are interested follow the link HERE!

Mark your calendar and join us for a GWS PTO meeting on January 26th @ 7pm in the GWS library.

Put your unwanted items to good use by dropping them in our textiles recycling bin, located in our parking lot near the trash dumpsters. Ninety- five percent of all textiles can be recycled. The following can be donated as long as they are clean & dry: clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, table linens, bed linens, draperies, throw rugs, and stuffed animals. Please place your items in plastic bags so they will stay dry. GWS will earn $100 for every ton of textiles placed in our recycling bin.

The Marshfield Education Foundation is excited to share that registration for the 13th Annual Marshfield St. Patrick's Day 5k is OPEN! We hope you can join us on Saturday, March 18, 2023 for another great day! Register today!
