Hello Canby Families,
Please enjoy this month’s CSD Top 3, those three things we think you’d like to know, plus the lunch menu. Happy reading!
First Day of School
It was our great pleasure on Tuesday to fill our schools with students! We’ve been working hard over the summer on several of our schools – repairing, renovating, and rejuvenating spaces made just for kids (see “Bond Dollars Still at Work” below). Now, we usher in the 2022-2023 school year, and we’re glad you’re here!
Take a look at these photos of the first day of school!
Bond Dollars Still at Work
This summer, while students were taking a break from school to work and play, we and our many partners worked hard to improve our schools using funds from the 2020 bond. Thank you, voters! Here is a summary of the work completed at each school!
Carus Elementary School – The front entrance will look a bit different this year after installation of a new safe-entry vestibule and renovations to the front office for better flow and visibility into the vestibule. The outside and portions of the inside got a new coat of paint, and there’s new lighting throughout the building. This school received technology upgrades to improve safety and instruction. Carus received a brand new roof and a brand new HVAC system so that units are no longer in classrooms, increasing the quality of airflow. The new playground with SofTile surfacing is in and located much closer to the building for better supervision. Crews did a great deal of concrete work and landscaping at the back of the school as well to provide safer access.
Lee Elementary School – A safe-entry vestibule went in at Lee along with improvements to the front office. Floors are refinished in polished concrete throughout the majority of the building, and folks will notice upgraded lighting. We added a new Career and Technical Education (makerspace) room near the library for students to enjoy, along with an accessible bathroom. Lee received technology upgrades to improve safety and instruction. We worked to begin upgrading the HVAC system and will continue that work this year until expected completion next summer. Roof repairs are complete. Finally, we splashed some color on the building exterior with fresh coats of paint!
Ninety-One School – Ninety-One got a brand new playground with SofTile surfacing with new concrete and landscaping surrounding it, creating a beautiful courtyard behind the school. Work is continuing on the safe-entry vestibule. We will revisit Ninety-One next summer for upgrades to classroom technology, lighting, and building security as well as completion of the remodel at the front entrance.
Baker Prairie Middle School – We installed a new safe-entry vestibule at Baker Prairie, and we renovated the front office for better use of space and better visibility into the vestibule. Crews repaired the roof, improved the HVAC system, upgraded lighting, and corrected field drainage. This school also received technology upgrades to improve safety and instruction.
Canby High School – Crews worked hard at Canby High School on the beginnings of the new 50,000 square-foot science and general education wing at the back of the building near the stadium. You can watch a live feed of the construction progress until completion in fall 2023. In addition to the start of the new wing, Canby High also saw roof and HVAC repairs along with technology upgrades to improve safety and instruction. Work has begun on a new athletic storage building near the track, and lights were installed on our softball and multipurpose turf field.
A Healthy Year Ahead
As the school year takes off, we want to do our best to ensure our students and staff stay healthy. Below are the latest health protocols in the Canby School District.
What's for Lunch?
