In the News
Groundhog Day 2021
This Groundhog Day tradition dates back to 1886. While this year was a bit different (thanks COVID-19), most years will see tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world making the trip to Gobbler's Knob to see Phil's prediction. Punxsutawney Phil's fame has grown significantly over the years, having even appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show back in 1995!
If you want to learn more about Punxsutawney Phil and The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, please click here.
Pickleball in PE
One of the fastest growing sports in America involves a court and a net. And, no, it's not tennis or badminton, it's pickleball. Yes, that pickleball, the one your grandma plays.
Pickleball is something of a mix between tennis, racquetball and ping pong. Players use special paddles and a wiffle ball, and games take place on tennis courts with specific pickleball lines. Nets and court sizes are smaller than their tennis counterparts, and the most common game is doubles, although singles is also an option. It has its own set of quirky rules — for instance, try to stay out of the “kitchen”— but they’re easy to learn. The different rules and equipment that is used is only one part of what makes Pickleball so popular. Another aspect of why Pickleball is so popular is because people of all ages can play the sport.
Miss Massetti’s senior PE classes have enjoyed learning how to play pickleball in class. Hopefully, you will see some of them playing on the courts at Short park this spring and summer and maybe even join their college club pickleball team.

Winter Sports Spectator Policy
Sportsmanship, while important for the participants of a sporting activity, is also of the highest importance for the spectator as well. The center of attention during an athletic event should be on the game and its participants, not on any spectator who causes a disturbance or makes comments because of a disagreement with an official’s call or a coach’s decision.
Please click here to read the policy in its entirety.
This policy went in to effect at the start of the 2020-2021 winter sports season.

Brennan Hepler "Beane" ~ Class of 2015
Music has always been an integral part of Brennan's life. He shared with us that as a young music student, he thought he might grow up to be the best Trombone player ever! While at LTHS, Brennan played the Trombone and participated in the Marching Band. He was also active in theater having participated in productions like Suessical, Charlie Brown, Fiddler on the Roof, Thoroughly Modern Millie and others. Additionally, Brennan was selected to participate in the All State Vocal Jazz competition in 2013 - 2015.
Outside of LTHS Brennan participated in many theatrical productions at both the CTL and CAC, including West Side Story, Urinetown and Suessical again. He was nominated for three Ray of Light awards. In addition to theater, Brennan was also a member of the Special Performance Group at The Uptown Music Collective.
After HS graduation, Brennan went on to pursue his music passion at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. When asked what inspired Beane to pursue music, his response was "Music always had my heart. If something else holds your heart, you shouldn't do music." While at Berklee, he was able to focus on fine tuning his performance and song writing skills. As part of his graduation performance, Beane performed on stage with Justin Timberlake (see picture below).
So what's next for Beane...he is preparing to release two new original singles and has recently opened an online merchandise store. You will also find him on the upcoming season of American Idol, scheduled to premiere on February 14th. While he couldn't share many details about his American Idol journey, thus far, he did share that we will likely see his audition in an upcoming episode. Beane auditioned for American Idol back in November 2020, in Ojai, CA. Be sure to tune in on February 14th and cheer him on!
Click here to view Beane perform his original "Himself" in-studio at Berklee College of Music with Jade Che on keyboard.
We asked Beane what advice he might offer LTHS students who aspire to pursue music as a career and he said, "If you are comfortable, work a little harder and push yourself beyond your comfort zone." He also said, "You need to do and make and be music all the time. Get your music out there for people to see and hear."
To see more of Beane's music visit www.beanemusic.com.

This includes travel to all states outside of Pennsylvania. Please refer to the PA Department of Health frequently asked questions for guidance on holiday travel.

Masks and face coverings are most definitely not comfortable, but are our new reality. We want to focus our time at school on learning, building positive relationships and keeping each other safe and healthy. Thank you for encouraging a positive attitude from your child.
What if a student doesn't wear a mask properly?
1. Student will be asked by a staff member to put on the mask and cover required areas.
2. If student refuses, and administrator will ask the student to put on the mask.
3. If student refuses, parent/guardian will be contacted.
4. If a student continues to refuse, they will be placed in isolated area away from others or need to be picked up by guardian.
Please remember to wear your mask, wash your hands and maintain a distance of 6 feet from others whenever possible.
There will be no tolerance for intentionally trying to spread germs or any type of related behavior. If this should happen, parents will be contacted. Again, our focus is on learning and safety. We want to maximize every moment we are at school. Thank you for your support!
