Updates from "Our House"

It's great to connect with you again.

Welcome to 2021. It was great to have all students and back in the building last week.

Over the holiday break, our custodial staff did a great job cleaning and preparing our school for the return of students. We can't thank them enough for their ongoing commitments to maintaining the safety of all students and staff.

We want to take the opportunity to remind our families to continue using the screening checklist each day prior to sending your child to school.

The end of quarter 2 of our school year is fast approaching. If you would like your child to switch between at-home learning and in-person learning for quarter 3, please contact the school by January 21, 2021, to assist us with our planning. If you are unsure and have questions, please reach out. We have engaged in many conversations and hope we can provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision that's right for your family.

On Friday, January 15, our staff engaged in staff collaboration and professional development. We value the time we can collaborate and work towards improving the teaching and learning experience.

Over the past couple of months, we have been considering all aspects of the Soccer Academy program in the context of the challenges of this particular school year. As a result, we do not believe we can safely offer a quality Soccer Academy program this year. We believe in the program and are committed to offering it in the future. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the school administration.

Our teaching staff continues to gather evidence regarding student learning. Report cards will be sent home on February 2, 2021.

The second semester begins on February 1st. There may be some small changes to student timetables. We are also beginning the process of finalizing options for students for the second half of the year and will be communicating this with students soon.

Alberta Education defines numeracy as the ability, confidence and willingness to engage with quantitative and spatial information to make informed decisions in all aspects of daily living. A numerate individual has the confidence and awareness to know when and how to apply quantitative and spatial understandings at home, at school, at work or in the community. On January 26, 2021, @ 7:00 pm, we will host a virtual school council meeting through Zoom. Parents and guardians play an important role in student success. School councils allow parents to participate in decisions that impact student learning. By contributing knowledge, perspective, and ideas at school council meetings, parents actively contribute to the success of the school community.

Many of our students have access to technology. With having a device comes the responsibility of being a positive digital citizen. It is important that we remind our students of the safety aspect of digital citizenship and this should be supported by multiple sources including teachers, administrators, school support staff, and parents. We will feature a component of the document in our newsletters. Please take the time to discuss these important issues with your child.

At some point in our lives we all have stressful times. We can be impacted by such things as financial pressures, unexpected difficulties, unemployment, or stressful situations such as the current outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Support is available from Alberta Health Service Addiction and Mental Health, although how the services are provided may have changed.

Alberta Health Services has resources and services, such as Text4Hope and Togetherall, available to help you or someone you know. Remember, if you are struggling you are not alone. There are supports in place to help you.
