Crockett Cougars,

We have had an exciting start of the new school year. This year we have already seen awesome instruction, growing enrollment numbers, students following our PRIDE Core Values, and loads of school spirit.

I would like to encourage parents, teachers, and students to get involved with our PTSA and CAC. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month in our Crockett library. Our CAC starts at 5:30 and CAC starts at 6:30. This is a great way to get involved and have voice in your school community.

Senior Portraits will be taken on September 11-13, 2019. Seniors should schedule a time with Ms. Sauceda in Rm 102. There are NO retakes for Senior Portraits.

9-11th grade will have Picture day on Monday, September 30th and Tuesday, October 1st.

Yearbooks are currently on sale at the LOWEST price of the year. You can purchase your Crockett High School yearbook for $45 with cash or check from Ms.Sauceda in room 102 or online at JostensYearbooks.com. Prices will go up on September 29.

Saturday school will begin this Saturday, September 7th. Saturday school will be located in the library and take place from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M.

Expectations for Saturday School:

• Library doors will open at 9. Students will sign in and out with a teacher/admin to document their time in a shared google document. Students in need of attendance hours will leave their documentation form with teacher/admin at that time.
• Students must turn in cell phones upon entering the library
• Students will be assigned seats by teacher/administrator, 1 per table until all tables have been used (Students may be allowed to work together on projects/assignments at staff discretion).
  
• Students should use the restroom in the library, and should not be allowed to wander in other areas of the building. Students must exit through yellow exterior door near the box computer lab.
• Once a student leaves the library, they will not be allowed to return.
• Hours will not be granted if students are sleeping or using Chromebooks for gaming or watching videos, etc. Independent reading is acceptable.
• If students engage in inappropriate behavior or use disrespectful language, they will be asked to leave and no hours will be awarded for that day.
• If assigned Saturday School for discipline reasons, additional Saturday session(s) will be assigned.

Twilight will begin September 30th and will take place in the library. Twilight will begin directly after dismissal at 4:30 P.M. and end at 6:30 P.M. Monday through Thursday. Saturday school and Twilight are great opportunities for students to make up attendance hours, have a dedicated space to complete coursework, and receive academic support from teachers.

Expectations for Twilight:

• No students will be permitted after 4:50, unless coming from tutoring with a teacher, athletics, extra-curricular activities, etc.

Parents, students & teachers! Crockett PTA wants to do some great things this year! We need volunteers and memberships to show your support for students and our school! Please, please consider joining forces with us this year so that we may have a strong presence both financially and with support. Each year we get a little better but without you and your support we just won't be able to exist. Please look for our table at back to school night to sign up and ask how you can help. Crockett Volleyball team has started their Nothing Bundt Cake Fundraiser and would love to have your support! The team is selling bundtlets for $6 and have many flavors to choose from. Congratulations to all of the Crockett High School THEATRE students who participated in this year's All-District Summer Theatre Series, held at the AISD PAC in July! Students experienced theatre in three different productions: IN THE HEIGHTS, ALADDIN DUAL LANGUAGE and TAKE FIVE ( Take 5 was written and directed by Crockett graduate, Noah Messer)!

Communities In Schools (CIS) is enrolling students for the school year 2018-2019!

CIS works in partnership with Crockett HS to provide services and opportunities to help students achieve their highest potential. Our supportive, comprehensive programming teaches students the skills they need to be safe and successful in school and in life. CIS staff work directly with students by offering a wide variety of free services during the school day. These include:

· Academic support, college preparation, and career exploration

· Small support groups or individual services with a social worker, counselor, or mentor

· Character building activities such as service learning projects

· A place for students to get to know other students in a positive, safe environment

· Resources (school supplies, school clothing, snacks, referrals to community resources)

· 9th grade transition support and guidance

Crockett ECHS is a proud No Place For Hate (NPFH) campus! We are looking for students who would like to participate in the NPFH Coalition this school year. No Place For Hate initiatives focus on improving our school climate by combating bias, bullying and hatred.

YWCA Gen YW program is recruiting students for the Fall semester. Gen YW groups support students’ healthy life skills development and include topics of understanding emotions, time management, relationships, healthy coping, understanding our health, and problem-solving.

Expect Respect, a program of the SAFE Alliance, works to promote healthy relationships and prevent violence and abuse among children and teens. The program supports youth who have been exposed to violence and engages youth as leaders in creating safer schools and communities. Expect Respect's school based support groups and counseling focuses on building communication skills, expressing feelings, expanding healthy coping skills, self-confidence, and reducing stress symptoms.

Dress Code

Austin ISD’s student dress code supports equitable educational access and is written in a manner that does not reinforce stereotypes.

To ensure effective and equitable enforcement of this dress code, school staff shall enforce the dress code consistently and in a manner that does not reinforce or increase marginalization or oppression of any group on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, immigration status, or any other basis prohibited by law, that adversely affects the student.

Students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others.

General Guidelines

1. Basic Principle: Certain body parts must be covered for all students at all times.

• Clothes must be worn in a way such that abdomen, genitals, buttocks, breasts and nipples are fully covered with opaque fabric.
• All items listed in the “must wear” and “may wear” categories below must meet this basic principle.

2. Students Must Wear*, while following the basic principle of Section 1 above:

• A shirt (with fabric that touches the waistband in the front, back, and on the sides under the arms), AND
• Pants/jeans or the equivalent (for example, a skirt, sweatpants, leggings, a dress or shorts), AND
• Shoes.

3. Students May Wear, as long as these items do not violate Section 1 above:

• Religious headwear
• Hats facing straight forward or straight back and must allow the face and ears to be visible to staff and not interfere with the line of sight
• Hoodie sweatshirts (wearing the hood over head is allowed, but the face and ears must be visible to school staff)
• Fitted pants, including opaque leggings, yoga pants and “skinny jeans”
• Ripped jeans, as long as underwear and buttocks are not exposed
• Tank tops, including spaghetti straps
• Halter tops
• Athletic attire

4. Students Cannot Wear:

• Violent language or images
• Images or language depicting drugs or alcohol (or any illegal item or activity). or any other substance prohibited under FNCF(LEGAL)
• Hate speech, profanity, pornography
• Images or language that creates a hostile or intimidating environment based on any protected class or consistently marginalized groups
• Any clothing that reveals visible undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded)
• Swimsuits (except as required in class, field trips, or athletic practice see “Extracurricular Activities”)
• Accessories that could be considered dangerous or could be used as a weapon
• Any item that obscures the face or ears (except as a religious observance)

Dear Parent or Guardian:

We are excited to announce Crockett Early College High School will be one of 82 AISD campuses offering FREE breakfast and lunch to all students for the 2019-20 school year. To help improve healthy food access, we are participating in Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a program which offers school meals to all students at no cost.

What does this mean for students?

• All students will have access to a free, healthy breakfast and lunch each day.

• Second meals and a la carte items must be purchased.

• Reduces stigma that may be associated with school meals.

What this means for parents and guardians?

• Time and money saved because meals are provided at school free of charge.

• You will no longer be required to submit a meal benefit application for students at this campus.

• An income verification form is required if your household is not directly certified by receiving SNAP or TANF benefits.

• If you have children that are attending another Austin ISD campus that is not participating in CEP, a meal benefits application will still be required to receive free or reduced price meals at that location.

• CEP removes any financial burden of ensuring your child is properly nourished, and eliminates worries about student meal account balances.

How parents and guardians can help:

• Apply today to receive benefits for your family outside the school day and help our school increase eligibility for certain types of programs and funding.

• Apply for SNAP benefits today at: www.YourTexasBenefits.com.

• You must submit an income verification form if your household is currently not receiving free meal benefits through programs like SNAP or TANF. This information is needed to help maintain our campus demographic information used for various funding sources and programs. Income verification forms will either be submitted during the online enrollment process, if not, then electronically on the Parent Cloud or a paper form will be provided to you.

Upon the completion of the 2018-19 school year, families may request a refund of any remaining funds on student meal accounts through the Austin ISD Nutrition & Food Services Department. If a refund is not requested, these funds will remain in the account and be available in the event your student selects a second meal or any a la carte items.

We encourage families to take advantage of these free, healthy meals by making the choice to have their children eat school breakfast and lunch. If every student not currently eating school lunch dined with us just a few days each week, it could help bring better foods, like grass fed beef, organic produce or organic milk, to all students in Austin.
