Principal's Message
Freeland Elementary Families,
Our temperatures definitely bring in the feels of spring this week and I am not complaining π
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support for our students and our staff. Each day, can bring about many different celebrations and some days bring challenges, but knowing we have a supportive community, makes each day a successful one!
Thank you for helping each child love coming to school, and thank you for believing in us to educate your child. As we dive into the 100th day of school this week, please know that we won't be stepping off the gas and we will keep pushing to achieve greatness!

A Note from Your School Counselor π
So happy to have finally hit February, January felt like it lasted a lifetime! The week of February 5th-9th is National School Counseling Week, which helps create awareness about what school counselors do for students across the country. In the Freeland Community School District, I am a universal support in both the Learning Center and Elementary School buildings. I visit each classroom (Y5-4) 4-5 times a school year for classroom lessons, I am available to work with your student individually for check-ins, I help with friendship βstuffβ, homework/organization, etc.
In January, I was able to get back into the classrooms for lessons, here is a little blip on what each grade level learned this month:
- In our Kindergarten classrooms, we talked about Growth Mindset and that doing hard things and mistakes are okay because they help our brains grow bigger and stronger! We also had a dance party where the students could show what they learned by answering questions to the music.
- In our 1st grade classrooms, the students learned about their brains and the three different parts of their brain that are involved in feelings and thinking. Make sure to ask your 1st grader about their Wise Owl, their Elephant, and their Guard Dog. This is one of my favorite lessons to teach!
- In our 2nd Grade classrooms, the students learned how to T.H.I.N.K. before we speak. We went through each of the letters and learned what it means to think before we speak. Is it TRUE? Is it HELPFUl? Is it INSPIRING? Is it NECESSARY? Is it KIND?
- In our 3rd Grade classrooms, the students learned about friendships and had an introduction on setting boundaries within their friendships. The students were able to practice putting together an I-Message that respectfully communicates their boundaries.
I will be making my way into the 4th Grade classrooms this month as well, we will be continuing our lessons on Executive Functioning skills and will be learning about Flexible Thinking.
Love,
Ms. Castillo
