Welcome to December CLA Families! ❄️

Thank you for attending our Fall Family-Teacher Conferences, it was so nice to see all the families on campus to meet with teachers and celebrate the accomplishments our scholars have completed. As we move into December, we will have eight in-person days with scholars and are planning to maximize all the time with them that we can! Though the month is short, we will have a couple events taking place- please see the Middle School Movie Event, the Winter Spirit Week and Winter program flyers below.

As always, thank you for letting us serve your scholars, we are truly blessed to be able to interact with them each and every day!

Explorers of the month are recognized during the monthly assembly. Teachers and staff select scholars who display the monthly character trait and surprise them during the assembly.

We are proud to celebrate our scholars and excited that peers get to celebrate each other in such a positive and encouraging way!

Lori Daniels has been serving our CLA scholars for the past 3 years. Working in the front office, she is the first person scholars see in the morning and has the best phone voice with families calling in! Lori sees every scholar for their best self and has a great impact on their day. We appreciate the fact that Lori is part of the CLA family and are excited to for the opportunity to recognize her!

Middle Schoolers are invited to come watch a movie together with their peers!!! See flyer below:

The Crater Lake Academy Winter Program is just around the corner! We are inviting all of our families to attend this event and have a wonderful evening. The program will consist of K5 musical and guitar orchestra performances.

There will be a Classroom-decorated Tree Silent Auction as well as a few raffle baskets available. Purchasing will be available via cash, card or check! More details to come.

This is sure to be a wonderful night!!!

Each month CLA will focus on demonstrating a school-identified character trait. Scholars will be selected as "Explorer of the Month" based on these traits and be recognized for their accomplishments.

December character trait highlight is "Generosity."

Please take time to discuss with your scholar what it means to be generous.

• Definition: "to give more than what is expected and without expectation of reward or recompense"
• Question: "How do you choose to show generosity at CLA?"

Not only does CLA provide free breakfast and lunch for all scholars, but here is the December Meals Menu for your viewing!

If your scholar brings a lunch from home, but would still like the menu offering for the day, that is fine as well!

We wanted to let families know about the Spirit Weeks we hope to hold in the future. Each month we will still share flyers, but here are the days in advance in case some planning may need to take place!

We will let families know if anything changes!

The CLA Spirit Gear store is now open for a couple weeks for ordering, will close on 12/14/23 and the orders will be fulfilled after that date. Orders will be picked up at the Rogue Threads location or can be delivered via mail (see options at check out).

The protocol for picking up students early is as follows:

• Emergency Notifications- Please contact the office no later than 1:30pm to provide adequate time for the office to contact the classroom
  
• Please let your student know the after school plans or how they are being picked up early before they come to school to limit interruptions in the classroom throughout the day

With instruction being important, we are asking that families refrain from pulling scholars out of class early (prior to their release time) so they may interact with content as much as possible. Thank you so much for partnering with us to ensure our Explorers receive the most out of their learning time!!!

CLA will be focusing on providing experiences for our scholars by exposing them to different careers. We will have community speakers visit throughout the year and share the path they used to get to their career, whether it was through attending college/university, trade school, or through a different path our scholars will get to engage and ask questions!

With that, on the first Thursday of each month, our Explorers and staff will wear College/University gear (logo t-shirts, lanyards, hats, etc) or wear/dress in the Career they hope to be or would like to highlight. Example: if a scholar is hoping to be a firefighter in the future and they have an outfit, they are encouraged to wear it on this day!

Our hope is that we begin encouraging our Explorers think about their future!

For 6th, 7th or 8th Grade scholars interested in participating in Middle School Athletics through their resident school, please reach out to Mr. Pogue directly and he can help provide the information and items needed to play.
