Parents, students & staff will have the opportunity to "rent" the David A. Starkey Spirit Rock to recognize your child(ren)'s birthday, show school spirit, thank or recognize a teacher or staff member, celebrate events, etc. It is a great way to spread positive messages and increase excitement as a member of our Panther Nation!
Pine View Middle School would like to thank you for your donation to paint the David A. Starkey Spirit Rock! Donations made to paint the rock will directly benefit your child and teacher's incentive and recognition programs at the school.
Please review the following guidelines for reserving the Spirit Rock:
1.) Visit pvms.pasco.k12.fl.us and view the calendar on the right side of the PVMS website to find an available date.
2.) Visit https://www.studentquickpay.com/pasco/ to pay for the rental of the David A. Starkey Spirit Rock.
3.) You will receive a confirmation email confirming your payment and the date of the David A. Starkey Spirit Rock after payment and completion of the MachForm generated through RYCOR.
4.) Arrive at PVMS on or after 4:15PM the day prior to your rental to decorate the David A. Starkey Spirit Rock. Your rental is from 4:15PM the day prior to the rental date until 4:15PM, the day of the rental date.
Spirit Rock Policies:
- Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis.
- One family, group or organization per day may paint the Spirit Rock, unless you have paid for several days in succession.
- Daily cost for the reservation is $20 during the school year/$10 during the summer via RYCOR. If your preferred date has been reserved, please choose a different date for your reservation.
- Reserve the date you want! Once reserved, you have the rock for 24 hours, from 4:15 pm on the afternoon prior to your reserved day until 4:15 p.m. the reserved day. (If your child's birthday is on February 2 - book February 2. Then at 4:15 p.m. on February 1st, you may begin painting).
- It is your responsibility to paint the rock or find someone to paint it for you. Pine View Middle School will not paint the rock.
- The family or organization must supply paint, rollers, brushes and appropriate clothing for painting the rock. All supplies and the area around the rock must be left as you found it. Please clean up after yourself and do not leave any paint or materials on or around the rock or on school property. Any damage to school property as a result of painting the rock will be taken care of by the family or group that reserved the rock for that day.
- Plan to use 2-3 cans of spray paint as the base coat. More will be used if the color you are covering is dark or bright.
- In the event of inclement weather, a family or organization may revisit the calendar and choose an open date for a substitution. This may or may not be the next school day as that may already be reserved. We apologize we are unable to make refunds due to weather.
- In keeping with the Pasco County Schools Code of Conduct, Pine View Middle School will not allow any bullying, profanity, obscenity or derogatory language. Please refrain from any political or discriminatory remarks. If there is any question to the wording or symbols painted on the rock, we reserve the right to remove/repaint the rock without notice.

Where did the Spirit Rock come from?
Wesley Chapel Rock & Landscape Supply (31108 SR 54 West*Wesley Chapel, FL*33543) generously donated the David A. Starkey Spirit Rock to honor the legacy of Mr. Starkey and the impact he made on his students while teaching at Pine View Middle School. The David A. Starkey Spirit Rock was dedicated on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 with Mrs. Starkey, David's mother and his daughter, Cali Starkey, along with many friends, family and the PVMS Staff.
How can I rent the rock?

How much does it cost to rent the rock and how do I pay?
$20/day during the school year and $10/day during the summer. 100% of your donation goes to support activities and incentives for the PVMS staff and students.
What supplies do I need?
You will typically need two cans of spray paint for the base coat and additional paint for your design. For more intricate designs, craft paint, foam brushes and even stencils work great.
The area around the rock must be left as you found it. Please clean up after yourself and do not leave any paint or materials on or around the rock or on school property. Any damage to school property as a result of painting the rock will be taken care of by the family or group that reserved the rock for that day.
What can I reserve the rock for?
You can reserve the rock for anything!! A student's birthday, thank a teacher or staff member, congratulatory events, good luck on competitions and tournaments, recognizing milestones… The rock is a fun way to spread any kind of positive message. Please note that profanity and political messages are not permitted.
What if I reserve the rock and the weather is bad?
The rock can be towel dried and the paint will adhere even in the rain if you want to brave the elements. If painting in the rain is not your thing, revisit the calendar and pick the next available date.
Can PVMS paint the rock for me?
PVMS is not responsible for painting the rock. You can find someone to paint it for you, but painting the rock is fun, and we are sure that no matter what you do, the person you are painting it for will love it.
What if the rock is already reserved on the date I want?
Rock reservations are on a first come, first serve basis so make your reservations NOW!! If the date you want is already reserved, choose the next available date, either before or after.
