Just a note, several TLs mentioned that suggesting some Iowa School Library Standard(s) is a helpful reference. We'll try it again this year in some newsletters.
October 11 Teacher Librarian Conference
We would like to invite you and paras to the October 11 teacher librarian conference at Heartland AEA. Based on conversations we’ve had with some TLs and paras this fall, these are the themes that seem to be of high interest:
- library records and student privacy
- school (and personal) data security and privacy basics
- reviewing reconsideration and selection policies
- TeachingBooks and literacy supports
- NoveList for student use and support
- updates on AEA Scout and OneClick
- Iowa School Library Survey
- and time to share and make connections.
We'll have the registration link shortly. We hope to see you there!

Personal Streaming Services in the Classroom
The AEA media centers belong to an organization that provides some copyright legal advice. Here’s some guidance that may answer some questions about using a personal streaming account in the classroom. This will also be included in the Copyright BriefNotes for Students and Teachers that should be released later this week.
Here's a little background: “Streaming and digital services typically license their content from third party providers. This means that the streaming service is restricted in some fashion by their license. In turn, these services issue sublicenses to their subscribers consistent with these restrictions. Therefore, streaming and digital service require their individual users to agree to formal Terms of Use (“TOU”) before being permitted access to the provider’s online services.” Read more here. You are welcome to share with teachers.

New Ebooks Added
This is an annotated list of ebooks added last month in Mackin VIA and AEA Scout. Click the 2022-23 tab and start on line 83. Most of these titles were recommended purchases from teacher librarians. If they don’t meet your school’s needs, they can be de-activated. Feel free to copy/paste the list and share with teachers.

Top 10 Collaboration Ideas
Top 10 Collaboration Ideas
“Research shows that partnerships between teacher-librarians and classroom teachers strengthens the quality of instruction, leads to higher levels of student skill development, and increases the likelihood that students will transfer those skills outside the walls of the school library. Teacher-librarian collaborations are successful when curriculum delivery leverages the skills and expertise of both instructors.” Read more about collaboration ideas here.

OneClick and Changing District Links
One item that sometimes takes some time to complete is a review of the district website to find the old links to digital resources. Even if your school isn’t quite ready to launch, you might want to take the time to find those links. We can send a OneClick graphic and a OneClick button for Symbaloo, Clever, etc.
As of the morning of September 12...
These districts are complete and https://launchpad.classlink.com/haea will work for students and staff: Ames, Boone, Earlham, Glidden-Ralston, Johnston, Lynnville-Sully, Melcher-Dallas, Nevada, Perry, Roland-Story, Saydel, Van Meter, Waukee.
These districts are almost complete. We need to run a roll-out test with the tech director, curriculum director, and/or teacher librarian(s): AC-GC, Bondurant-Farrar, Colfax-Mingo, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Dallas Center-Grimes, Gilbert, I-35, Knoxville, Martensdale-St Marys, Norwalk, Panorama, Pella, SE Polk, SE Warren, West Central Valley, United, Winterset, St Frrancis, Pella Christian HS, St. Anthony, Sacred Heart (WDM), Sacred Heart (Boone), Mt. Olive Lutheran.
We invite these districts to complete the on-boarding questionnaire to start the OneClick launchpad process: ADM, Audubon, Baxter, Exira-Elk Horn, Madrid, North Polk, Pleasantville, nonpublic schools.
Other districts have a Clever or ClassLink structure in place and we are working with them to add the AEA digital resources.
