Dear MacArthur Families,

Get ready for some fun as we focus on Creativity this month! One way to think about Creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Creativity is 1 of 3 traits we are focusing on this year that help students Be Well. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.

Opportunities to be Creative are all around us! How can you find ways to be Creative as a family this month? Have some fun connecting as a family while practicing Creativity. Here are 2 “PurposeFull Pursuits” for you to complete together. Can you do both this month?

Pursuit 1:

Get Creative with expressing your emotions through a game of emotional charades!

Gather as a family and brainstorm some emotional words. Write them on slips of paper

and turn them facedown. Then, take turns choosing a slip of paper and acting out the

emotion (assist with reading as needed). Other family members will guess the emotion

that is being acted out. After each person’s turn, take a moment to talk about what we

may need when experiencing these emotions.

Pursuit 2:

Set aside some time to gather as a family and check in with each other. Ask each family

member, “How are you feeling today?” Practice Honesty when responding and listen

carefully as each family member shares. Use the emotional check-in questions below to find out more about that feeling. Practice Creativity to come up with a new question to ask in order to learn more! Challenge yourselves to check in with each other on a regular basis!

• What do you need right now?

Looking Ahead - 2023-24 School Year District Calendar

If you have not completed the below "Intentions for 2023-2024 School Year Form," please complete it as soon as possible, as we anticipate classroom placement for the 2023-2024 school year.

Please note that this form is not the same as online Enrollment Verification. The above is simply to help us prepare next year's rosters. Please be on the lookout for an email regarding online Enrollment Verification in late July/early August.

If your family has an incoming 4K or 5K* scholar and you have not registered for the 2023-2024 school year, please do so HERE. Enrollment numbers affect the size of classrooms and staffing. The more information we have as we anticipate the next school year, the better we are able to serve our wonderful scholar population.

*Registration is just for new families entering the district. If you currently have a 4K student at MacArthur, you do not need to go through the entire online registration process for them to enter 5K in the 23/24 school year.

No School 5/12: Please note that there is no school next Friday due to a teacher in-service day. The office will be closed.

Extra Eagle Notes: If you are a fifth grade family, and happen to have extra Eagle Notes, we would take them back at MAC to save on paper! Just send them to school with your student, and we will happily reuse them next year!

Families with students who have medications at school, please be aware that you will need to pick up your student's medication at the conclusion of the school year. All medication left in the building after June 15th at 2pm will be disposed of.

Food and Nutrition will be offering free breakfast at Kennedy Middle School Monday-Friday this summer (6/12-7/21, except the week of 7/3) to all children between the ages of 2-18 from 7:30-7:50 AM. Click below for more information!

We are so excited to help our Destination Imagination teams make it to the global competitions! Please click the button below "Donation Link" if you are able to help with donations to make the trip happen!

The kids had a great time today and it was wonderful to see the parent turnout! There is still time to make donations! Login here to share your scholar's link with friends and family! The links will stay open until May 10th.

We are pushing our PTA meeting from next Thursday, May 11th to Thursday, May 18th. This is in order to finalize budgets, request lists and donation ideas for the end of the year and setting up next year.

Our School Toolbox program is up and running. This is a way for you to get the school supplies for next year delivered to the school so you don't have to shop in the Fall. Click the link below for more information. If you already have an account, login in the upper right-hand corner. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one. Please note that some grades have a boy and girl option, due to the teachers needing just half of the class to bring certain supplies. If you order a School Toolbox, they will be available to pick up at open house on August 24th.

Finally, we are losing a lot of awesome PTA members to Kennedy Middle School so there are some positions we could use help with. If you are interested in learning more about the positions below, please email us.
