BHS Young Men's Leadership Group
Our Young Men’s Leadership group, now named “Men of Excellence”, has been engaged in several empowerment opportunities in October. On Monday Oct. 23rd, Mr. Deaundre Bobb, first year English teacher here at BHS shared his journey into the field of education. He gave us a student-athlete perspective for leadership, fielded questions about his journey, and encouraged our students to embrace their personal challenges in striving to better themselves.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25th we attended the CAS-CIAC “Men of Color in Leadership” Conference at Berlin High School. Our young men were blessed with the opportunity to hear a diversified panel of male leaders, in multiple discipline who shared their leadership journeys, their “WHY?”, and field questions regarding pathways, and mentoring opportunities for empowerment. The remaining portion of the morning they attended breakout sessions led by keynote presenters, Our Principal, Jesse White led a powerful workshop on the Leadership Framework for Life (Communication Creation of Systems, Content Knowledge, Courage, and Care), with his cohort.
Our next meeting on Monday, Oct 30th will feature Mr. Chris Prescott, our New Career Specialist, who will lead the group through an activity to assess their career and collegial interest.
Current members are actively encouraging peers to join, with the purpose-driven desire to grow as individuals and become their best selves.
