Woodland Schools Closed Due to Winter Weather Woodland Schools Closed Due to Winter Weather

Jan. 11, 2023

Dear Woodland Families,

Due to the winter weather impacting our area, all Woodland schools and offices will be closed on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024. This will be a traditional snow day/emergency closure; an eLearning Day will NOT be used. As a reminder, the district is also closed on Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

It is never easy to make the decision to close school, but ultimately the decision was based on keeping staff and students safe. Our area is expecting prolonged snowfall throughout the day with colder temperatures and stronger winds as we head into the afternoon and evening. As today's weather forecasts have progressed, forecast snow totals for our District area have grown from 4 to 8 inches between tomorrow morning and 4:00 PM with gusting winds creating hazardous conditions by blowing snow across our school bus travel routes.

There is greater confidence in the weather models this evening, and based on the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service, AccuWeather, and the Lake County Division of Transportation, we have enough information to make the decision to close tomorrow in the name of safety.

I understand that with this decision comes implications for parents' and guardians' work schedules. Please know that the decision was made neither lightly nor hastily; our goal is always to keep our schools open; unfortunately, it does not appear that it will be safe to do so tomorrow.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Robert Machak, Superintendent

Winter Weather in the W!

Visit the Winter Weather page on the district website to review important reminders and answers to frequently asked questions about how we keep your Wildcat safe during inclement weather conditions. Winter weather in northern Illinois can be unpredictable, and conditions can go from mild to harsh within a few short hours. It is important that we prepare in advance so that we are ready when winter weather strikes.
