October 2021
A Note From Dr. Stewman & Mrs. Hennarichs
Autumn has arrived!
As cooler temperatures arrive, our 'Lost and Found' explodes with hoodies and jackets. If your child is wearing any type of layers to school, please write their name inside. This will help us get the jackets back to their owner while also helping our lost and found not overflow!!
Thank you for engaging with our teachers over the last week with student led and parent teacher conferences. It was good to see some of you in the building. We hope to see even more friendly faces at our It's Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus 2021 Boo Bash on October 14th!
Our Sonora Learning Academy has new coding tools. In order for our students to build a car/chariot to race them. Therefor, we need your lego straps or shoe boxes that you no longer need. We’d like to turn your trash into treasure. If you can contribute, please drop off in the office.
Over the next month we hope that you will begin to hear your child/children talk more about the 'Learning Pit', based on the research of James Nottingham. The Learning Pit is important in that it gives students control over their own learning. The goal for the Learning Pit for our students (as well as parents and teachers) it to understand that learning is supposed to be a challenge. We know that when students take on new learning or more challenging learning they will go into the pit. Our teachers and you go into the pit when we experience new challenges or learning as well. Be sure to ask your child more about the Learning Pit throughout the year, and encourage them to persevere even when the work gets hard. We will be teaching the executive skills (see the rocks in the pit) that children need to access when struggling through a difficult topic. A picture of our Learning Pit can be seen below.
