A Message from Mrs. Caudill
As a Leader in Me Lighthouse School we are always working on continuous improvement. Each year we ask parents to take a short survey. These surveys are used to annually collect, analyze, and report student, staff, and school-level outcomes related to the focus on improving leadership, culture, and academics. They help us identify our strengths and weaknesses, develop improvement plans, and monitor progress. Please complete the survey below. All of your responses are completely anonymous. The survey should take you approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
Stay Well,
Devon Caudill

Teacher Appreciation Week
One of our most favorite times of the year is coming up and the PTA has you covered! May 8th -12th is Teacher (and Staff) Appreciation Week! (Note: The PTA Year at a Glance calendar sent home at the beginning of the year has the wrong date for TAW.) The Teacher Appreciation Committee is planning fun things to show our love that week - more to come on that later. For now, we've made showing your appreciation fast and easy with several resources:
- GiftCrowd is back: Click here to contribute to a GiftCrowd gift card for any staff member at Amerman. Recipients get to choose where to redeem them and there are no fees. Win-Win! Contribute by May 7th at 11:59 PM as gifts will be sent at that time.
- You can also check out the PTA MemberHub store where you can find great teacher gifts too.
- Plus, here are a couple fun at-home activities your kids can do to show appreciation for their teachers: Teacher acrostic poem and printable thank you card.

Stock Market Games Winners!
Congratulations to fifth graders David C., Cole D., and Liam H.! They competed with other students in the region and ranked 1st place in the Elementary School Division!
The Stock Market Game, a program run by the SIFMA, is an opportunity for students of all ages to participate in live, linked-to-the Stock Market, investment simulations. Each student team starts with $100,000 to invest in stock, bonds, and mutual funds traded in the NYSE. Students learn about investment strategies such as considering risk, portfolio diversification, and performance of their holdings. Fifth grade students at Amerman each year are offered an opportunity to participate in a year-long session competing with other students in the region.

Lighthouse Recertification Visit
Every two years we submit evidence that we are continuing the practices of the seven habits through Leader in Me. This year we had an onsite visit where our students shined! Our Bobcats took our visitor on a tour of Amerman showing her how the seven habits are ingrained in our school culture. It was such an amazing morning watching our student leaders shine!

Peer to Peer with Cooke School
Today students from Mrs. Carboneau, Mrs. Parnin, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Vertrees class traveled to Cooke School for a peer to peer art activity and fun. It was such an amazing opportunity for our students to interact with non-neurotypical peers from another school. Students from both schools had so much fun! We were so grateful for the opportunity. As you know kids as a whole are so accepting of new ideas and situations, this opportunity will only help them be more compassionate and inclusive adults.

May Focus - Habit 8: Find your Voice!
This month’s Habit: Habit #8 - Find your Voice
What this means: Find your voice means finding something that you are good at and like doing. You are proud, but do not boast. Instead, you use your expertise to help and inspire others.
Physical: Learn your true nature and gifts, then use them to envision what you can achieve.
Social/Emotional: We all have a purpose and special talents.
Mental: Transcend the negative culture of ego, scarcity, comparison, and competitiveness.
Spiritual: Be a catalyst to the success of something bigger than ourselves.
What I can do:
- Try something new like painting, horseback riding, or baseball. Then ask yourself: Did I enjoy myself? Was it easy or hard? Do I want to learn more?
- Go to the library or search the internet to find reading material on new things. What kinds of things spark your interest? What do you want to continue learning about?
- Plan some time to help someone in need. How did the experience make you feel?
Great Books for Habit #8- Find Your Voice
- Wonder by: R.J. Palacio
- The Lion Inside by: Rachel Bright
- Separate is Never Equal by: Duncan Tonatiuh
- Wonderland by: Barbara O'Connor
- Those Shoes by: Maribeth Boelts
