Spring Sports
Dear Methacton Families and Community,
This past weekend, we had five boys and one girl swim at Bucknell University for the 2023 PIAA State Championship meet. Overall, the boys finished 25th in the state among 65+ teams.
On day 1 of competition, the boys medley relay consisting of Christopher Groff, Christian Lebold, John Du, Eric Zang, and alternate Jake Kallal, finished 11th in prelims, which qualified for a spot in consolation finals and took place in the evening. In prelims, Christopher Groff also swam the 200 freestyle and placed 21st. At finals, C. Groff, C. Lebold, J. Du, and E. Zang competed in the medley relay one last time of the season and swam their best time together, 1:36.13, and placed 13th overall. The relay swim time was only 0.1 of a second from the school record!

In the evening, he swam the 100 backstroke for one final time of his high school career. He swam his personal best race going 49.75, once again lowering his current school record. He finished the event with a bronze medal. The difference between 1st place and 3rd place was only 0.32 of a second!
The boys all earned All-State certificates for their performances at the State Championship meet. If you see any of the following boys in the hallway, please congratulate them on their success at states and the hard work they put in all season: Christopher Groff, Christian Lebold, John Du, Eric Zang, and Jake Kallal.

Freese went the distance, allowing four hits, three runs and striking out four. Jenna Kaufman and Mady Polonsky each had two hits and an RBI. Avery Schwartz scored the would-be winning run in the third on a Mia Pettine single.

The Boy's Track team got their spring season off to a great start at the Phoenixville Classic. Evander Lackman and Matthew Sandner led the way for the warriors with a 1st and 3rd place finish in the 1600. In addition to them, 6 other warrior underclassmen found their way into the top 20.
In the field, Mateo Aburto jumped to a 6 inch PR in the long jump (18'9) for an 8th place finish at the meet, and in the 100m dash, Wesley Conover sprinted to a PAC qualification and an 8th place finish with time of 11.81.
Other standouts from the meet were sophomore Tyler Rifkins sub 5-minute mile, a huge improvement from last year and a testament to the consistent training he has put in all winter.

Girls Track & Field
Week two of practice for the Girls Track and Field team was part fight against nature - rain and cold winds made for tough conditions early in the week. Each of the event groups continue to work hard to get ready for our first dual meet on March 29th. We also spent part of the week conducting athlete trials in each event.
The coaching staff (Coaches Arcangelo, Freeman, Mahan and Ronzano) have been working hard to instruct our large crew of freshman which make up almost forty percent of the team. Definitely a lot more hard work by the team this coming week.
Upcoming Events:

Cole Kleger, Wyatt Stemlar, Will Little, and Brenden Sinelli congratulations boys!!
Michael Maro is our deserving athlete. Michael is a freshman that has quickly earned a starting role and has made big impacts for our varsity offense. Michael is an extremely coachable and nice kid who will wow you with his play. We are excited for 4 years with him on the field in green and white!

Girls Lacrosse
Girls’ lacrosse opens its season this week with games against Upper Dublin and Harriton. Having come off two successful scrimmage outings last week, despite the weather, the team continues to work to redefine itself as it replaces the 16 seniors lost to graduation last year. Co Captains for the team are Megan Sanelli, Michelle Zhai and Elise DeWan. JV captains are Hannah Smith, Megan Wertz and Fiona Groshopp. The Team is hoping to continue its strong showing in the league as well as post season as they are now set to defend their PAC 10 title.
Upcoming Events:
3/23 - Game vs. Upper Dublin (HOME)
3/24 - Game vs. Harriton HS (HOME)
Boys Tennis
Boys tennis had a busy week finalizing their official team lineup and hosting their first match of the season in a non-league matchup against Radnor which ended up being a very competitive and close match up. The Warriors fell short losing 3-4 in the overall match but won 3-2 in the district format which could help the boys later in the season in district play. There were so many great matches that day but our athlete of the week would have to go to senior and team captain Ethan O’Brien who officially clinched the 3-2 win in the district format for us and for his extra leadership overall as our team captain!
3/20 - Match vs. Harriton HS (HOME)
3/21 - Match vs. Norristown (AWAY)
3/23 - Match vs. Phoenixville (HOME)
