Internationally Speaking, with Principal Bryant
Dear Silver Spring International Families,
October is Mental Health Awareness Month and we took this week to focus on our collective mental health. See the graphic below for a snapshot of this week's activities. A huge thank you to our Counseling Department and Wellness Team for creating meaningful activities to celebrate Mental Health Awareness. Not only did they create daily activities for students, they also filmed and edited the video "What mental health support looks like at SSIMS" and ran a successful mental health fair at lunches where staff and students shared examples of positive mental health and had the opportunity to create stress balls.
In other news, we have approximately 3 weeks remaining in the first quarter. Now is the time to check in with your children to ensure they have completed and submitted all assignments and are prepared to close out this academic quarter with a strong showing of what they know and are able to do in each content area. Encourage your child to speak with their teacher about outstanding work and make a plan for getting additional help if needed.
Caregivers --- remember, you can have a parent-teacher meeting at any time during the school year! I encourage you to maintain regular contact with your child's teachers. Connect with them (and with ParentVue) to track your child's academic progress, ask clarity questions, bring a concern to light, and stay informed about assignment activity. Need a more comprehensive picture of your child's progress? Contact their counselor to arrange a conference with your child's teachers. We appreciate your partnership in the success of our students.
Have a GREAT weekend! 🐾

Community Engagement Survey
Research shows that collaboration between school and home leads to student success in the classroom. We at SSIMS are looking to enhance our collaborative efforts in order to build our community and engage all of our families. We would love to hear from you regarding this and how we as a school can best meet your needs. We appreciate your feedback with this!
Please complete the survey to share your feedback. The survey is available in different languages so please select the survey that works for you.
Community Project Information
Attention 8th grade families! Silver Spring International is a Middle Years Program school, which means our 8th graders demonstrate a commitment to service by completing the Community Project. The Community Project is a project in which students make a positive change or impact in their community and warm SSL hours. On Wednesday, October 12th we hosted a Community Project informational meeting for parents and guardians.
If you were not able to attend, you can access the presentation here! We did attempt to record the presentation, but unfortunately we had issues with the audio from the recording. The linked presentation includes voice over notes from Ms. Kuhn, our MYP Coordinator.
