Ms. Romo's Report
Please look for information regarding opportunities to meet with teachers, attend a family event and join our family group soon! Also, look for information to hear about the State of Goodrell. At this time, I will share information about our current reality as it relates to academics and behavior. We will also share our building goals and how you can support your student and our Goodrell community in achieving these goals. Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

Goodrell Family, Friends, & Teachers Together (GFT)
Over the past several months, a group of school staff has been working with Goodrell parents and community members to start Goodrell Family, Friends, and Teachers Together (Goodrell FFTT). Now that all the logistical pieces are in place, we are ready to start recruiting new members!
Goodrell FFTT has the following purpose areas:
- To provide a forum for families to collaborate with the school about school improvement focused through an equity lens.
- Contribute to a positive climate of the school and community by fulfilling various needs through a service mindset.
- To ensure students and staff for activities and co-curricular programming have appropriate resources and funding.
We are excited to host our first meetings on Tuesday, October 19th and Saturday, October 23rd at Goodrell Middle School in the library. Please check out the attached flyer for additional details.
Prior to those meetings, we would like to collect contact information from families who are interested in helping Goodrell FFTT grow and serve our students. All that we ask is that you fill out this FORM so we can add you to our contact list.
We have five $10 gift cards from Tasty Tacos to give out as an incentive to sign up. Winners will be chosen by a random drawing and will be informed prior to the first meeting on October 19th. Winners don't need to be present at the meeting to win.

Nurse Bo's Bulletin
Nomi Health is partnering with DMPS to provide a new COVID-19 testing option for Students, families and Staff.
Two locations--at Hoover High School and the Kurtz Opportunity Center--will include a priority access line for students, their families and staff, as well as a line for the general public.
The drive-thru sites will offer both rapid antigen testing (with a 1-hour turn-around time) and PCR testing (with a 24-48-hour turnaround time). PCR testing is recommended since it is the most accurate.
The testing sites opened Monday, Oct. 4.
Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Locations:
- Hoover High School – parking lot north of Northwest Public Swimming Pool at 4915 Madison Ave.
- Kurtz Opportunity Center 1000 Porter Ave. – parking lot north of the baseball field near SW Porter Avenue and SW 12th Street
Those in need of a test are asked to register in advance by visiting:
http://testing.nomihealth.com/signup/dmschools
Students should bring student IDs, and staff members must bring their district staff ID badges. Younger students without IDs need only identify themselves as students. There are no out-of-pocket costs but those with insurance are asked to bring their insurance card.

Mr. Power's Piece
Now that October has arrived, our fall sports seasons are winding down and the first season of winter sports is on the horizon. Middle school sports in Des Moines are split into two seasons for winter, with the first starting October 18th and ending at winter break, and the second season starting at the beginning of January and stopping at the end of February. The first season features girls basketball, wrestling, and cheer, while the second season features boys basketball and cheer. Look for practice and game schedules to come out soon.
As the fall progresses, more and more club opportunities are being made available to our students. Most of our clubs should be fully up and running by the end of October. Currently, we have more than ten clubs meeting or scheduled to start meeting soon with a handful of other clubs in the works. We often rely on teachers to pick up extra duties to run clubs but we are also fortunate to work with some great community partners to expand what we can offer to our students. Our goal is to get every student involved with something and hopefully we can meet our students needs with a variety of sports, music, and club opportunities. Make sure to bookmark our Activities Calendar to stay current on what we are offering each day.
