Run, Run as Fast as You Can! Run, Run as Fast as You Can!

What has a face made of icing, gumdrop buttons, and likes to run away? A gingerbread man! The kindergarteners at West have been doing all things gingerbread over the past couple weeks. They have read many different versions of gingerbread stories, including The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, The Ninjabread Man, and The Gingerbread Cowboy. While reading the various versions of the stories the students have worked on identifying story elements, sequencing the events of the story, comparing and contrasting the events of the story, and many other grade-level standards. The gingerbread theme has also been intertwined in many of the other activities and crafts the students have been doing in centers and independent work time. Before winter break, the kindergarteners will be making a gingerbread man and they are hopeful he won’t run away like the characters in our stories. Stay tuned to find out what happens!

3rd Grade Winter Concerts 3rd Grade Winter Concerts

Last week, third grade students participated in the first winter concert here at West Elementary! Not only is this a great way for students to share music with their families and community, it also ties into our music curriculum. They had to sing a variety of styles of music, follow a conductor, and sing in their head voice with correct posture. They also learned appropriate audience etiquette while watching each other’s performances. They worked very hard, and both concerts were a great success!
