The staff at Evergreen Elementary are beyond excited to welcome our kindergarten through 4th grade students back to school on Wednesday, August 23rd and our preschool students on Monday, August 28th. We can't wait to see all of your smiling faces back in our building. The janitorial staff, teachers, and office staff have been working very hard to get ready for this school year.

Mrs. Allison Agres will be joining the administrative team at Evergreen this year as the assistant principal. She is starting her 20th year in education at Evergreen this fall. During her tenure at Evergreen she has taught second grade and has been the reading specialist.

Mrs. Kerri Snyder will be joining the office staff this year. She is a familiar face in our District. Last school year, she spent time in the Evergreen office and in the Benjamin Middle School office. We are very excited to have her on the Evergreen team!

On Wednesday, August 16th, at 3:30PM, your child's teacher will be posted in your PowerSchool accounts. Due to student and family confidentiality, the class lists will not be posted outside of Evergreen school. Please contact the office if you have any difficulty locating that information.

Families can drop off supplies and meet their teacher from 2:00-3:00 on Monday, August 21st. If you are unable to make it, please make sure to send your child to school with their supplies on Wednesday.

We are hosting an orientation for our new kindergarten students on Friday, August 18th at Evergreen. (See the times below). Please bring your child's school supplies with you. This event is for parents/guardians and the incoming kindergarten student, no siblings please. We want to make sure that we are giving all of our attention on our incoming kindergarteners and not visiting with past students and siblings.

If your last name begins with A-L, attend from 1:00-1:45 PM

If you last name begins with M-Z, attend from 2:00-2:45 PM

Kindergarten students begin school on Wednesday, August 23rd.

If you have not completely finished the registration process, your child can not attend school on the first day. We will be contacting families that are still needing to finish the process. Please complete that process by Tuesday, August 15th, so that your child can begin the school year with their peers. If your registration is not complete by 3:00PM on Tuesday, August 22nd, your child can not begin school on Wednesday. If you do not hear from the school by Wednesday, August 16th, then consider your child fully registered.

The first day of school for kindergarten-4th grade is Wednesday, August 23rd. On the first day of school, teachers will greet students outside the school on the blacktop by the playground or by the kindergarten doors. Your child's teacher will be outside with a sign with their name on it. There will be staff members with matching shirts all around the building to assist students on where to go. For the safety of the students, please do not follow your child into school. We know this is difficult, especially for our kindergarteners, but please say goodbye outside.

The first day of school there will be a lot of traffic and cars around the school. PLEASE DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR IN THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT. You can park alongside Buffalo Circle, but please pay close attention to the parking signs and driveways. Please do not block any driveways.

If your child is new to Evergreen this year in grades 1st-4th, please join Mrs. Agres and Mrs. Smith for a tour and welcome orientation on Wednesday, August 16th at 10:00AM. We will meet in the front hallway and tour the building. This will be a time for you and your child to ask any questions about Evergreen, learn the daily routines, and identify your child's classroom. We hope this orientation will help ease some of the anxiety that you and your child might have starting at a new school.

Student arrival begins at 8:15. There are no staff outside on duty before 8:15, so please wait for the 8:15 bell before dropping off your child or letting them out of your car.

When students arrive to the building, they will walk around the school to the playground/blacktop area until the bell signals for them to line up. When the bell rings, students should line up in their classroom line. On days with inclement weather, students enter the building and line up by their classroom.

Due to supervision and safety at arrival time, please refrain from playing on the playground equipment. Please also remind your child that there is no running on the blacktop.

If you are accompanying your child to the blacktop please leave as soon as the bell rings. We know it is very tempting to stay and chat for a bit, but please do that off of school property.

Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time each and every day. This allows your child to follow their normal routine, have enough time to prepare for the day with their peers, and settle in for the day ahead. When a child comes to school late, they miss instructional time and it throws off their routine.

Please join the Benjamin School District 25 community outside of Benjamin Middle School for a night of celebration for the 2023-2024 school year. The event is from 6:00PM-8:00PM.

Student Dismissal begins at 3:05. At 3:05, students riding the bus are dismissed. At 3:07, walkers and PALS are dismissed and at 3:09, car riders are dismissed. 3rd and 4th grade walkers/car riders, can be picked up on Buckskin.

Please be patient and courteous in our arrival and dismissal lines. There are a lot of vehicles, students, and staff during these times and our focus is always on safety. Our routines and procedures are in place to make sure that everyone arrives and dismisses from school in a safe way. Thank you in advance for your patience and attention to the staff directing traffic.

Over the next two weeks, the bus company will be finalizing routes and times. We still have families registering students, so that changes some of the stops and times.

If your child rides the bus, please be at your stop 7-10 minutes before it is scheduled to allow for the bus being a bit early and a bit late. Please remind your student of our bus expectations.

• Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
• Use an inside voice.
• Be kind.

Please make sure to pack your child a full lunch to eat at school, especially the first day of school. Evergreen does not have a school hot lunch program, so students need to bring a school lunch with them. We do offer a free/reduced lunch program to families who qualify for this program. Students in all grade levels have 20 minutes to eat lunch and 30 minutes of recess to play and socialize with their peers. When it is too cold, hot, or rainy, students have indoor recess in their classroom or the gym.

Kindergarten: 11:00-11:20

First Grade: 11:30-11:50

Second Grade: 11:55-12:15

Third Grade: 12:25-12:45

Fourth Grade: 12:50-1:10

All students can bring a healthy snack to school everyday. Each classroom will have time during the morning for your child to eat their snack. Please pack a snack that is easy for your child to open and eat on their own. Some healthy snack options include: fruit, vegetables, pretzels, popcorn, yogurt, granola bars, to name a few. Please do not pack chips, cookies, or candy.

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the Evergreen Office, 630-876-7810, to report your child's absence no later than 8:00 AM the day of the absence. Please only email your child's classroom teacher about an absence after you have called the office. You can leave a message about an absence on the attendance line at anytime.
