Weekly Update ~ April 26, 2021
From the Superintendent's Desk
Dear Families,
I am pleased to introduce two new members to the Oak Grove Board of Education! Please see the brief bios below for Emily Wessman Savino and Henry Liu. Both members will be taking their formal oath of office during tomorrow's regular Board meeting. In addition, we will take a moment during the meeting to honor the commitment and support we've received over the years from our outgoing Board members, Jennifer Manski and Jon Baffico. We couldn't be more grateful for their leadership and dedication to our students and entire school community.
Emily Wessman Savino
I am a former attorney and mom to three
children who will all be Oak Grove students
next year. I am married to a high school math
teacher who has coached football and
baseball throughout his 22 years in
education. I believe that teamwork,
collaboration, and communication are key to
the continued success of the OGS School Board.
Henry Liu
With four boys attending Oak Grove School,
my perspective as a parent has seen
dedicated teachers, administration and staff.
Our school can be proud to have continued
success in following its motto “Where
Students Come First.” I would like to give
back to this tradition while serving on the
board and help Oak Grove remain a leader.
Planning for Fall
As mentioned in our previous OG News, OGS administration will be conducting a webinar for parents in late May to provide a preview of next year's programming and operations. We are expecting a full return to in-person learning this fall with our normal daily start and end time. The Illinois State Board of Education is releasing new health guidance for fall in the upcoming weeks. This guidance will help our administration confirm programming plans for the start of the school year and finalize our webinar for parents. More details will be forthcoming as we close out this school year.
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Families,
We have a new 8TH GRADE GRADUATION UPDATE:
As you know, we are planning a graduation ceremony here at Oak Grove Campus on June 2nd. We will begin the ceremony at 6:30 pm. We will be following all health protocols. 8th grade students will sit socially distanced from their peers by the stage and families will sit together, but will be socially distanced from the next family. Each graduate can have UP TO 3 family members/guests in their assigned pod. More details will be shared each week in the OG newsletters.
Thank you,
Mrs. Webb
2021 - 2022 Online Registration Opens Today for Returning Students
Based on recent health guidance (March, 2021) from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), we are planning for a full return to in-person learning this fall. We do expect some level of mitigations to still be in place when we return to school in August, such as mask wearing and six feet social distance when eating. More guidance from IDPH and ISBE will be coming in the future weeks.
Your log-in information will be sent to you on the morning of April 26 via email.
*New student registration will take place on June 7th and 8th. More details to come.*

Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
The first week of May, students in grades K-8 will take the spring round of the iReady diagnostic assessment for reading and math. All students whether they are an Eagle@Home or an Eagle@School (at home) will take the first 30 minutes of each diagnostic with their teacher. The rest of the diagnostic will be taken independently throughout the remainder of the week and completed by Friday, May 14th. As you may remember, the iReady assessment is computer adaptive and is designed for students to get 50% of the questions incorrectly and 50% correctly in order to determine their instructional level. The test results are more accurate when students complete the questions independently. For additional information please: https://i-readycentral.com/FamilyCenter/ and our Oak Grove website, Assessment Information. If you have any questions about this assessment, please contact Lilli Melamed at melamed@ogschool.org.
