Red Ribbon Week
DID YOU KNOW?
Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Red Ribbon Week® (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started. This year’s theme is Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free.™ Visit www.redribbon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend.
At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle. Each day of the week there will be a dress up theme and an activity during lunch. The week will culminate on October 31st, when the Wellness Center hosts our first Wellness Boo Bash, where students can dress up and go trick-or-treating around the Commons for resources, candy, and raffle tickets. Please partner with us and discuss this message at home.

Coaches Corner - Girls Volleyball
Last week’s loss to Stevenson brought the Mustang winning streak to a close, but a win against Wheeling in 2 sets on Monday boosted our spirits. We are now in the whirlwind part of the Girls Volleyball season preparing to face some heavy hitters in Warren, Vernon Hills, Lakes, and Libertyville this week and next in individual matches. And the Varsity team is looking forward to playing 5 matches at the Lake Forest Invitational on Saturday, October 7th.
Be sure to join the Varsity team at our home match against Lakes on Tuesday, October 3 where we will honor MHS staff members at the Staff Appreciation Night.
And remember to mark your calendars for our Cancer Awareness Night on Wednesday, October 11 at our home match against Lake Zurich. There will be a 50/50 raffle and themed baskets to win. All proceeds will go to the Lynn Sage Foundation (link). Please mark your calendars and join us for this special event!

The Palatine Invite is one of if not the toughest invitationals in the State. 8 of the top 10 programs in the State were present. I have always believed anytime you can finish in the top 10 teams in any of the races, you're getting it done, so 4th was outstanding. We were also only 26 points out of 2nd, so it's safe to say our sophomore squad is one of the best in the State. The sophomores were led by Elijah Mendoza in 7th place. He was followed closely by Izic Miller in 9th and Nathan McCreight in 14th. All 3 were medalists. Andrew Weaver was next in 50th place. Nathaniel Mendez was 63rd, and James Glaskin-Clay was 113th, out of a total of 308 runners. With our victory this evening against Carmel Catholic, next Tuesday shapes up to be a big meet in a lot of ways. The last conference quad of the season at Adler Park will determine the regular season champion. Both us and Stevenson are undefeated in conference meets this season. It is also our opportunity to go undefeated in dual meets for only the 2nd time in at least 20 years, the last time being in 2018. Be there or be square, people...
This weekend we will have a split squad situation, with our top 7 going to Peoria for the Peoria Invite, and the rest of the team traveling to Antioch for the Antioch Invite.

The Lady Mustang golfers started the last week of the regular season with a match against the Grant Bulldogs. The teams mutually agreed to dress in an Adam Sandler/Happy Gilmore theme. The ladies had a blast playing Hickory Knoll Golf Course in Lake Villa, especially hole 1 where the rule was you had to take a running Happy Gilmore swing.
The following night we honored our Senior golfers and parents with our final home match vs Grayslake Central. Seniors Mia Field, Kate Niemann, Abbie Shifley, Ella Bradshaw & Catie Barreca played their final match at Countryside and were honored before the match.
That same day, the JV golfers participated in an invite at the Par 3 course in Grayslake, with Junior Abby Altergott taking 2nd place out of 37 golfers from 8 schools, with a score of 40.
The IHSA Regional Tournament is Thursday, 9/28 at Spring Valley Golf Course in Salem, WI. The Mustangs are hoping to advance multiple girls to Sectionals, which will be held next week at Buffalo Grove Golf Course.

Saw lots of continued improvement at the Palatine Invite! 7/8 course PRs for Varsity & JV, plus in the F/S 2.5M race, there were 5 lifetime PRs for avg mile pace! Several were within 5-10 seconds of their lifetime PRs as well! Good day overall!
Our first round of “Sub #” (Ex. Sub-21) water bottles for runners who have broken their season time goals! Proud to see the progress so far and excited to see the continued goal-breaking the rest of the season!
This past Tuesday, we got to honor our Seniors at Senior Night. Thank you Amber Dean, Rey Palacios, Jeni Bolanos, and Alicia Fontenla for your contributions to the team over your time at MHS! We will miss you!
Last week’s Runner of the Week: SO Precious Oyebanji! Precious is a new addition to our team but has already made such a positive impact & clicks with everyone. She’s grown so much in her running & confidence so far this season & is a great example of giving her all all the time!

- Fabric covering all private parts must not be seen through.
- Clothing that depicts, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances is prohibited.

Technology Use
Students will utilize technology to support their learning in class. Students are reminded to use their Chromebooks and cell phones appropriately at all times. For further information about technology use, please refer to the student handbook located on the District web page.
