Byam Family Newsletter

This past week we had our kindergarten screening where incoming students and families visited Byam to work with our staff. We want to welcome our incoming families to the Byam Newsletter distribution so that they can get a feel for our Byam community and be updated on important happenings.

Thank you to all students, family, staff, and community members who came out for our great Byam Walkathon! Fun and great walking and running was had by all! The Byam Walk-a-Thon raised an amazing $14,665 through donations and sponsors!!! Thank you to everyone involved in planning and volunteering, and participating in this annual Byam student, staff, family, and community event!

This week we welcomed our Chelmsford Fire Department for a Fire Safety Program for our Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade students. Each year Chelmsford Fire Department presents fire safety information for our Byam students.

This week Drumlin Farm visited all kindergarten classes for a farm enrichment visit. Enrichment programs are made possible through sponsorships from money raised during our Byam BSA events!

This has been an amazing week of BSA Enrichment opportunities! 1st grade students enjoyed an animal enrichment visit from the Audobon Society.

2nd Grade had a beautiful sunny day this week for their 2nd grade Sunny Brook Story Walk.

Did you know donations to the BSA directly support teaching and enrichment opportunities? Thanks to Byam's fundraising efforts this year, we were able to purchase glow in the dark equipment for an outer space obstacle course!! Special thanks to Ms. Quinn, Mr. Hiltz, and Mr. Romac for their hard work making this happen during P.E. for all our students!! Mr. Romac had to climb up to the roof and cover all of the sky lights, and our PE teachers hand painted every single item with glow in the dark paint!!

Schedule for Byam School Field Day:

•1st and 2nd Grade –Thursday June 1st- 9:30-11:30

•3rd and 4th Grade – Thursday June 1st – 1:05-3:05

•Kindergarten – Friday June 2nd- 9:30-10:30

If you are interested in being involved with Field Day by running a station, being a timekeeper, filling water buckets, etc., please go to the following link and sign up for a spot no later than Sunday, May 28th. Please make sure you have a CORI on file with the office.

Our 4th graders will be visiting Parker Middle School next week to get a tour, meet with staff and the new Principal Mrs. Blagg at their 5th grade school. It is hard to believe they will be middle schoolers soon!

On Friday next week, graduating seniors who attended Byam will walking the halls and getting a congratulatory clap out with their cap and gowns. We are looking forward to sending the class of 2023 off in style!

Every school day counts, and attendance matters. It is more difficult for children to learn to read and to gain other foundational academic skills when they miss many school days. Students who are chronically absent are much less likely to read at grade level by third grade and are more likely to have poor attendance in later grades. The Byam School doors open at 8:50 am every morning and students are marked tardy after 9:05.

Last weekend was the Byam Walk-a-thon full of smiles, cheers, face painting, food, games, and fun! It was wonderful seeing the community come together to support enrichment and events at Byam School. Your support makes things like field trips, events, assemblies, special guests, and extra supplies possible through the BSA!

We are humbly asking parents to consider volunteering for one small task each year. If your child is attending an event, please keep an eye out for future sign-up forms. Many responsible students can also help with parent supervision! In addition to event volunteers, here are a few larger roles we are looking to fill. We will teach you the ropes and "ease" you in. Secretary: Position includes attending BSA meetings, and taking notes of what is discussed. All meetings are held virtually, so you can attend remotely if you have a conflict with child care. Meetings are held monthly on Wednesday nights.

Social Media Secretary: Position includes making graphics and posting to our social media accounts with information on upcoming events. Also includes streaming our monthly virtual meetings.
