Dear Wildcat Families,
I would like to thank the entire GHS learning community for a great 2024-25 school year. It takes a commitment from all of us to ensure the successes of our students.
GHS Class of 2025 Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 7:00 P.M. at the University of North Texas Coliseum. Congratulations to our seniors who will participate in this ceremony and be certified for and awarded with their high school diplomas.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are early release days. Students will be dismissed for the day at 1:05 each day. Please ensure that any transportation arrangements are made
accordingly.
Grades 9-11 are completing spring final exams this week. As previously communicated, there will be no early administration of finals. Students who are unable to take their finals at the scheduled time, due to an extenuating circumstance or emergency, may take their makeup finals during regular office hours on May 26th through June 5th. Thank you in advance for helping us to maintain the district and campus testing schedule with fidelity.

Wildcat parents/students:
The Chromebook insurance is now available for you to purchase for your student. Payments may be made by cash or check to the bookkeeper in the front office, or by credit card through the online portal. The device insurance is $20 per device per year ( $10 per year for free and reduced lunch students). This insurance covers repairs not to exceed an annual total of $200. The insurance must be paid in full prior to being applied for current repairs. The parent/guardian will be responsible for any repairs over $200 once insurance has been paid. In some cases this may include the purchase of a new device.
The insurance is not mandatory, however highly recommended to cover any repairs up to $200 and/or any lost or damaged chargers throughout the school year.

Reporting Absences and Attendance Information
Reporting Absences: If a student is absent it is the responsibility of the parent to do the following:
Click on the following Laserfiche link to report the absence.
https://forms.dentonisd.org/Forms/absence-note
The link is also available on the Guyer Homepage under Absences.
Documentation Required for Absences:
When a student is absent from school a parent note must be submitted using the Laserfiche link
within 3 days of the student’s return to school. If a student was seen by a physician the medical note
should be uploaded on the Laserfiche link so the absence will be excused medically. Any student
absence of more than 4 consecutive days because of personal illness must be accompanied by a
statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness that caused the student’s extended
illness.
A consultation over the phone or via video (telemedicine) is considered an appointment with a
healthcare professional. The medical note should be uploaded using the Laserfiche link for
absences.
Checking Students Out of Class during the School Day:
* *Freshmen should be checked in and out at the 9th grade center. Inquiries or questions regarding
9th grade students should call 940-369-4900.
- Students must bring a note from a parent to sign themselves out or the parent will need to come to check their child out. Emails and Phone Calls to the front office staff are no longer accepted.
- Appointment reminders for medical appointments will not be accepted as a medical note. A medical note should be turned in after the student has seen the physician.
If a student is ill, he or she should go to the nurse’s office before leaving campus. The nurse can
confirm a student should be sent home and can excuse the remainder of the day.
Closed Campus Lunch:
Guyer HS has a closed campus lunch policy. Students are NOT allowed to leave campus for lunch
EXCEPT for APPROVED off campus lunch days which the student has verified and been APPROVED
to leave.
If caught leaving, the student may lose their parking pass for the remainder of the semester or
school year.
DMV/Driving Test:
The district will excuse DMV appointments with the documentation from the DMV. Use Laserfiche to
upload the document. The district will excuse 2 absences, one for the permit and one for the license.
Extra-Curricular:
Extra-Curricular activities OUTSIDE Guyer HS are NOT excused absences. If your student will be
absent for club activities outside Guyer, please upload the documentation. The absence or absences
will be verified, but NOT excused.
College Visits:
Juniors and Seniors are excused for 2 Official Day College Visits with the documentation from the
college/university.
**If a student believes they have been counted absent in error, it is the responsibility of the student
to contact the teacher to ask for a correction.
Please see Attendance Matters on the Denton ISD homepage for any other information.
Compulsory Attendance: All students enrolled in public schools in Texas are required by state law to
be in attendance at least 90% of the total school days in each semester to receive credit for the
classes in which they are enrolled. Failure to attend at least 90% of the school days may result in
loss of credit and cause a student to have to repeat some or all of the courses for that
semester/year.
Excused Absences: State law and school guidelines governing attendance require that excused
absences pertain to illnesses, medical or legal appointments, funerals of immediate family
members, college days and school sponsored trips.
Denton ISD Family Center is a counseling center operated by the graduate students that are pursuing a license in mental health services from local universities.
