Mrs. Rivas-Smith's Newsletter for the Farquhar Community

Message from the principal
I hope you've all been able to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend. We have some exciting things happening this week at Farquhar, including picture day and our PTA showing of the movie "Angst" at Sherwood HS coming up on Tuesday.
This week I'm asking for your support and partnership to do a wellness check-in with your student at home. There has been a recent uptick in incidents between students struggling with peer-to-peer conflicts. I am noticing a pattern that students at every grade level are (1) not sharing peer/classmate concerns with a trusted adult, allowing conflicts to escalate, and (2) making interpersonal conflicts public among large friend groups via texts or social media.
We continue to advise our students to seek out the support of a trusted adult when they have a concern. When you're together, remind your student of the support they have at home and at school. Monitor their social media and text messaging as you see fit, and continue to reach out to us when anything arises. The staff at FMS are committed to your students' safety and wellbeing, and our upcoming advisory lessons will be tailored to our students' current needs. We are fortunate to have such a supportive parent community, and I know when we work together, our students thrive.

Student Attendance Incentive Round 2: September 26 - October 12
If your student did not earn the incentive on Friday, great news! September 26 will kick off ROUND 2. All students who earn no more than 5 unexcused tardies between September 26 and October 12 will earn the opportunity to purchase an icy treat on Friday, October 13.
You can support the incentive at home by monitoring your student's attendance in ParentVUE! The attendance code for an unexcused tardy is "TU". You can find period-by-period attendance records in ParentVUE by clicking the attendance tab from the left menu, then select the date. Attendance for each period will appear at the bottom of the screen when you scroll down.
If your student has earned the incentive, you will receive an email after school on October 12. Thank you for supporting our efforts to celebrate student responsibility.

PTA Corner
Join the PTA!
We have 143 PTA members—a big thanks to all those who have joined. It is not too late to join and donate to the PTA.
Our PTA budget is primarily based on donations from families. If each family donates $20 above the membership cost it will help us meet our budget goal and enable us to support our student activities and staff appreciation. We have 133 members so far and would like to reach at least 200 PTA members!
