Canby High School Family Newsletter
FINAL EDITION, School Year 2021-22
Graduation, Class of 2022
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
Well, here we are! The final edition of my newsletter as a CHS Principal! Final exams finish tomorrow, and we’re off for the Summer.
First, I would like to recognize our incredible baseball team. Despite our loss in last night’s state championship game, our team distinguished themselves with a phenomenal run in the playoffs. Starting in the #14 seed, our Cougars defeated #19 Bend, #3 South Medford, #6 Mountainside, and #7 Clackamas. Our young men displayed exemplary grit and determination as they took on some of the best teams from around the state. Our #2 finish will be something to be proud of for a long time. Thank you team for bringing the energy and fun to this playoff season. And thank you to our coaches and fans for the support. What a way to represent Canby to the rest of the state!
As we head into Summer, our bond work will ramp up. Today was our formal groundbreaking, and we expect to see a lot of change over the next few months as construction of the new science wing begins. While the main building will be closed through August, we don’t expect many major issues when students return in the fall.
Also, we’ve made some changes to key events for next year. Registration is scheduled for August 23rd and 25th in the afternoons and evenings. Packets will be mailed in July. We’ve also moved our “Back to School” night to August 31st, hoping to attract more incoming families to learn about our school and get oriented before classes start.
With every end of the school year, we have a number of staff who transition into retirement and/or other career opportunities. Congratulation to the following staff who are retiring:
Leesa Beaudoin-Registrar
Sue Harvey-Math Teacher and Department Leader
Dave Hauser-Math Teacher and Department Leader
Jenny Houghton-Instructional Assistant
Kelly Nace-Counselor
Todd Roberts-Manufacturing Teacher and CTE Department Leader
Thank you to these staff members and their total of 155 years of dedicated service to Canby Schools!
Finally, as most are aware, I have also decided to retire at the end of the year. It has been an honor serving our district and this community as the principal of Canby High School. I am so proud of the accomplishments of our staff and students as we’ve transformed the school and overcome the challenges of the pandemic. Under the new leadership of Ms. Cari Sloan, Canby High School will continue its improvement and excellence. I appreciate all the support our community has provided. We could not have done it without you!
Have a great summer. And Go Cougars!

Childcare Job Opportunity
We are hoping to establish an after-school childcare program from 2:30-4:30 p.m. beginning next school year, with a long-term goal of having a location at each elementary school. As we build this program, we need staffing to support this goal. We are looking for both site leads and assistants. Site leads would work about 3 hours daily. Childcare assistants could work up to two hour per day, and schedules can vary. If you have any interest in working some hours and being a part of this exciting new program in our school district, then please apply today.
Oregon Promise Grant Changes
Starting for the Class of 2022, the GPA requirement for the Oregon Promise Grant has been lowered to a cumulative, unweighted 2.0. Interested students who graduate from high school between March 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022 must apply for Oregon Promise by June 1, 2022 at 5:00 PM. For more information, please visit OregonPromise.org.
