Welcome Back!
Dear Horning Families,
As Principal, I am honored and excited to be part of the Horning Middle School community.
I would like to extend a special welcome to Horning Middle School, home of the Hawks, to all new and returning HMS students and their families.
We are excited to welcome students, families and staff back in the building as we finalize construction and facility upgrades at Horning Middle School. Please note that due to ongoing construction, the building will not be available to students and families until the Parent Information and Back to School Night that will take place on August 26, 2021.
The goal at Horning Middle School is to build upon the success of the House structure that was launched during the 2018-19 school year. At the heart of the house structure at Horning is a dedicated school wide daily advisory period that takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. We see the advisory period as critically important to ensuring student’s needs, both academically and socially/emotionally, are met.
Your child’s advisor will be your and your student’s point person within the house system. Your child’s advisor will be there to help you navigate through any questions and concerns that may arise. As you view your learner's schedule, the advisor’s name will appear in the “Advisory” section. Please note that this will be finalized later in August and may not appear on your learner’s schedule at this time. Please refer to our monthly newsletters for additional communication regarding the upcoming school year.
I look forward to a successful year for all of our learners. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the main office at 262-970-3305.
To stay informed, Horning uses a variety of ways to communicate with our school community throughout the school year:

Meet the New HMS Staff
Rose Lenz
My name is Rose Lenz. I have been at Whittier Elementary for the last 5 years here in Waukesha. I just finished up being a summer school principal at Bethesda Elementary. I will be joining the Horning team as the English counterpart of 8th Grade Dual Language. I'll be teaching math and social studies.
I live in Franklin with my husband, Andy. My dad, Jerry, also lives with us. Andy and I had our first baby last November; his name is Clark. We also have a labrador retriever, named Jorah (yes, that is a Game of Thrones reference). My dad has a dog too, a pitbull named Grey. It's a full house! I am a homebody and love to sit and read, though I don't have much time to do that now. I will read pretty much anything but love fantasy. I like 60's & 70's music, Weird Al Yankovic, and watching movies.
I am looking forward to working with all of you and seeing some of my previous students!
Sierra Mariani
Hello! My Name is Sierra Mariani, I am joining the Horning family as a Special Education Assistant; this is my second year with the Waukesha District. I grew up in Waukesha (Banting, Horning, and Waukesha North). I was an Aide at Waukesha North for the last school semester. I loved my experiences there but wanted to work with and enrich the lives of younger students. I am working towards my master’s degree in Special Education at Concordia University. I currently have a bachelor’s in business management also from Concordia. Before pursuing my teaching journey, I was a warehouse supervisor and logistics manager for 7 years.
When I am not at work or in class, my son Ayden and I love to take our puppy Lilo to the dog park and go to the pool, I love to go on walks, read books, do all kinds of art and crafts, and I do Zumba in my free time I am also on a fall volleyball league! Fun fact about myself is that I have been a Special Olympics coach for Volleyball and Bocce ball for the past 12 years.
Every day is an adventure and I look forward to every step I take on this journey. I cannot wait to have a great school year and meet you all!
Joseph Schauwitzer
Nikki Kastenholz
Hello,
My name is Nikki Kastenholz, I am excited to be working at Horning Middle School!
A little about myself, I received my B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation with a national certification as well as a Disability Certificate from The University of Iowa, Go Hawks! During my undergraduate studies I completed a Therapeutic Recreation Internship in a rehabilitation hospital in Schenectady New York.
I am currently in Graduate School at Edgewood College perusing my MA in Cross Categorical Special Education, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities and Learning Disabilities with Licensing. During graduate school I have acquired a diverse background working with children and adults of different developmental, emotional, physical, and psychological capabilities in a variety of settings.
I joined the School District of Waukesha in March 2021 as a Special Education Assistant at Whittier Elementary School. This summer I worked at Banting Elementary School as a 1:1 aide, and am excited to join the Horning Hawks team as a Special Education Assistant in the fall.
When I am not at work or doing classwork, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, swimming, going on walks, traveling to Marco Island Florida, and watching Netflix. I look forward to getting to know and working with all of you!
Paul Bowen
Jacob DeBonis
I received a Bachelors degree from The University of Wisconsin Platteville in 2019, and I have been involved in education ever since. In my childhood I discovered a passion for physical activity and expressed this through track and field. I continued this passion through college as a 110m and 400m hurdler. I also love experiencing new cultures and have traveled overseas teaching PE at the International School of Como in Italy as well as a brief stint at The American School in Switzerland.
I am excited to join Horning Middle School and am looking forward to this upcoming year.
Lindy Jones
My name is Lindy Jones and this will be my tenth year as an educator. I completed my undergraduate studies at Carthage College in Education and English, and also hold a Master's degree in Psychology. I have previously worked in Kenosha, Whitefish Bay, and Milwaukee, mostly as a Middle School English teacher.
I love reading, traveling, trying new foods, and going on adventures with my family. I live in Greendale with my fiance, and together we have five children, which range in ages from nine to fifteen years old. Our household is always laughing, cooking, and playing games together. I was born in Green Bay, and I am a very serious Packer fan. My parents are "snow birds" and live part of the year in Arizona, and I love to sneak away to visit them in the winter months.
I am looking forward to working as a team at Horning Middle School, and helping our students reach their highest potential!
