Principal's Pen...
November is an opportunity to allow students to demonstrate their learning so far on their report cards. Since students have been in school for 8 weeks now, they should be making progress in academics and behaviors. Our kids learn best when routines are followed and they know the expectations of what is required of them both academically and with non-academic routines as well. Please make sure that you are checking homework folders daily, reviewing word lists, math skills etc. to help your kid(s) be successful. Lastly, we encourage all of our students to use their voice respectfully when they disagree with someone or something, please support us at home with teaching kids how using their words and communicating their feelings help resolve conflict and promote effective communication.

What all families should know about The Bus!
I met with our transportation supervisor, Mrs. Banks and we discussed some "Eye Opening" miscommunication perceptions that were in our community. Please review the list below to better understand the legal rules that our bus drivers must follow for safety:
- Once the bus door is closed, it can NOT be re-opened unless the bus drives around the corner and returns, so kids that arrived to the bus late and the bus driver already closed the door, it is against the LAW for them to re-open the doors at that time. (Please try to arrive 10 mins early to ensure all students board the bus together and timely)
- It is ILLEGAL to follow a bus and try to drop a student off at another bus stop location
- The bus driver can NOT allow a student to board the bus from a different stop that he/she is not scheduled at; all students have a scheduled drop-off/pick-up location
- Adults can NOT stand in front of a bus to stop or block the bus from pulling off, that is illegal and could lead to a ticket or citation from law officials.
- Kids MUST be seated in their assigned seats on the bus at ALL times with their feet in front of them.
- Students must NOT cross the street behind the bus ever!
- Because the bus is on a tight schedule therefore if your child arrives late, they will have to be driven to school

Hello from Kindergarten
This month we like to focus on being thankful! There will be lots of activities to encourage growth socially, emotionally, creatively, and cognitively. The kindergarten year is a time of remarkable development and one which unique learning styles can be recognized. We love to celebrate our unique kindergarten students. Make November a month to focus on celebrating the unique and special qualities of your family and friends.

Happy Autumn First Grade Families!
As the first marking period is coming to an end and Parent-Teacher Conferences are approaching, we are testing all of the children to see how they are progressing. It is exciting to see how much they have learned already this year! Information and a schedule for conferences will be sent home soon. Conferences will be remote or in-person-- you get to decide! Be on the lookout for an email from the district with all of the details.
It's much cooler these days! Make sure that your child wears a jacket or coat, hats, and gloves as needed. We do go outside for recess every day, unless it's below 20 degrees, too wet or raining. Thank you to all of the families that finished their Family Pumpkin Project last month! They are wonderful and so creative! The children loved sharing their projects! A Family Turkey Project will be coming home soon.
Happy November!
Your First Grade Teachers,
Mrs. Garden, Mrs. Mounsey, & Mrs. Stremer/ Ms. Dobbins
Happy Autumn, Second Grade Families!
The second grade classes have settled nicely into daily routines. We have been focusing on small moments for our narrative writing unit. In math, students have been using number lines and number grids to add and subtract, and should know the names and values of each coin.
Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, and we will be focusing on family traditions and gratitude. Be on the lookout for the Family Turkey Project coming home soon.
Make sure you continue reading with your child every night, so they can review skills taught in class each day. Please go over your child's homework with them, sign the reading log, and have him/her return the packet on Fridays. Your support at home is greatly appreciated! We look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you at conferences.
As always, we welcome donations of hand sanitizer and tissue.
Educationally yours,
The Second Grade Team
Mrs. Albulov, Ms. Carlin, and Mrs. Tibbs
Third Grade Families
Thank you families of third graders. Your support, patience and grace this first quarter has been incredible. Rawsonville is so fortunate that you have chosen us as the place that your third grader is learning this year. And, your third grader is in a very special class of kids. This year, we have remarkably kind, intelligent, curious and very, very sweet students. The adults in the building have noticed your child's class. The students have gotten compliments about their ability to adapt to the "big kid" expectations of third grade. We are teaching and learning with a lot of gratitude these days.
However, we have a few more "asks": 1) Continue to monitor Class Dojo for school news, classroom news and news about your student. 2) Continue to open your student's red folder every afternoon/evening to check for notes and homework, and be sure to return important papers. 3) Read with your child everyday (10 minutes listening to them, 10 minutes you reading to them, and monitor that they read for 10 minutes on their own.)
The Third Grade Team:
Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. Roberson
Happy November 4th Grade Tigers!
Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for recess. The temperatures have taken a dip and it is quite cool for recess on many of the days:( Also, please remember that our classes have a daily snack from 10:50-11:00a.m. Please help ensure that your child packs a healthy snack (no chocolate/candy) for optimal nutrition and learning stamina.
We have been working hard in reviewing prior academic skills and building established routines, procedures, and grade level expectations. Moving forward, your child needs to have his/her multiplication facts memorized, write letters/words/phrases/sentences with correct penmanship & mechanics, ask questions to clarify misconceptions, complete classroom tasks within time frames, and positively have a "Can Do" attitude.
Looking ahead, Parent-Teacher conferences will be held November 16th and November 17th. Please be on the look-out for an email to schedule your 15 minute session with your child's homeroom teacher. This is a very exciting time to discuss the highlights of your child! The month of November brings "Thankfulness". Take time as a family and share what each other is "Thankful" for.
The 4th grade team is truly grateful for the students we teach, the partnerships with families, and the support we receive from our community.
Continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Fall.
Educationally yours,
Mrs. Ali, Ms. Dagenais, and Mrs. Gyulveszi
Special Education
Touchmath helps students learn basic computational skills while increasing their understanding of concepts and improving their attitudes toward math. Students immediately begin to attach meaning to a numeral by touching its touchpoints and counting. Because students learn all computational processes while using a paper and pencil, Touchmath is frequently used to help make the transition from manipulatives to paper-and pencil math.
Touchmath incorporates visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic activities to build a strong foundation in basic computation. Touchpoints, visual cues and auditory practice are eliminated after students receive ample practice and have the opportunity to experience repeated success.

Coaches Corner
Here are a few ways to use them:
1. Make their name with letters.
2. Make their name, or others’ names, mix the letters up, then make it again correctly.
3. Make a word, then have the child make the same word below.
4. Spell out the letters of the alphabet in order & sing the alphabet song.
5. Sort the vowels and consonants.
6. Sort the letters by their common shapes to see the connection between them, for example, q, e, o, p, d, g, c, b all have a curved/round shape within them.
7. Play with the letters, sort them by color, capital/lowercase, etc.
More next month!
Best wishes!

Intervention helps our students READ!
Happy November Rawsonville Tigers!
Here are some fun and easy reading strategies to support our young learners to become great readers: 1) Turn the "captions on" on your television and ask your child/children to read the words as they watch tv,
2)When eating out at restaurants, ask your child/children to read the menu items to you or read them together, and
3) Ask your child/children to read labels and/or directions on food or other items they find around the house.
These are just some of the ways to engage your child/children in the world around them and share those experiences with you! As always, make this time enjoyable and have a little fun getting creative with reading :)
Have a fantastic fall!

Staying safe from COVID-19 Information... We all need to do our part to keep schools open to in-person learning
The mask mandate has been lifted and is now recommended but not mandatory.
Maintaining the health and safety of our school community is of utmost importance, particularly during this unprecedented pandemic situation. Providing a safe environment is a partnership between parents/guardians and the school district. VBPS has put into place many measures to keep our students and staff safe while they are in school. We ask that our parents and guardians help to prevent the spread of COVID, as well as other illnesses by:
- Following the COVID-19 checklist guidelines
- Reporting to the nurse if your child or any household member tests positive for COVID, or if they have an actual or suspected COVID exposure
- Keeping your child home when they are sick,
- Promptly picking your child up if they become sick at school,
- Alerting the school nurse about any planned travel to discuss the required post-quarantine guideline, prior to sending your child back to school
Please contact Nurse Dionisia Munoz with any questions or concerns related to COVID-19 or other health-related issues involving the school. dmunoz@vanburenschools.net
Students who are sick must not attend school. If a student presents to be sick when at school they will be sent home and provided instructions about the possible need to quarantine. Siblings of students who are ill may also need to quarantine. We rely on our County Health Department to guide us accordingly.
