Helping Your Child Receive the Full Benefit of Their Education - Facts from the Attendance Office
An absence is any time your child misses any portion of the school day after the start of school (8:10 AM) and before the scheduled end of school (3:25 PM).
Absences are further broken down as excused and unexcused.
All excused absences require communication with school. Any absence lacking communication remains unexcused until such time as information is provided to the school. For an absence to be excused, we need communication from you (email, phone call, written note). It is never too late to communicate for a past absence.
Remember, good attendance is more than simply complying with laws;
rather, it is truly a matter of providing our children with more and better opportunities to learn!

Cultural Connections Updates
7 Grandfather Teachings
The traditional concepts of respect and sharing that form the foundation of the Native American way of life are built around the seven natural laws, or sacred teachings. Each teaching honors one of the basic virtues intrinsic to a full and healthy life.
Each law is embodied by an animal to underscore the point that all actions and decisions made by man are manifest on a physical plain. The animal world taught man how to live close to the earth, and the connection that has been established between the animal world and that of man has instilled a respect for all life in those who follow the traditional way.
- The Eagle teaches us LOVE. Love must be unconditional.
- The Buffalo teaches us RESPECT. Respect is the condition of being honored.
- The Bear teaches us COURAGE. Courage is the ability to face danger, fear, or changes with confidence and bravery.
- The Butterfly teaches us HONESTY.
- The Beaver teaches us WISDOM. Wisdom is the ability to make decisions based on personal knowledge and experience.
- The Wolf teaches us HUMILITY. Humility is being humble and not arrogant.
- The Turtle teaches us TRUTH. Truth is to know and understand all the seven teachings have given to us by the Creator and to remain faithful to them.
September 29th Powwow
Back to School Powwow will take place on September 29th at Indian Bowl, beginning at 2:15pm. The team will introduce the teaching of Respect to our students.

SchoolStore Program
Our school will be participating in the SchoolStore program this year. This online program helps our
school earn cash without students selling door-to-door, collecting money or delivering products. Over 400 merchants, including Family Bookstore, Kohl's and WalMart, have joined together to give back up to 50% of all sales to our school just for shopping through SchoolStore.com.
To shop and support our school, simply go to www.schoolstore.com and select our school.
Participation is key in helping get the word out about our School Store. Soon your child will come
home with a parent letter requesting you to help them enter email addresses to friends and family.
When you enter email addresses, you'll receive a prize code your child can return the next day for a
prize. Thank you for your families' support of our school!

LDF Volunteers…here for you!
Hello LDF Faculty and Staff,
We are so happy to be here to serve our school community! We are here to lend support in whatever way that you need. If you would like caring adults to work one-on-one with children, tutor in reading/math, general support in the classroom (materials, copies etc, group work)…we will work to find volunteers to meet those needs.
We look forward to meeting you all. Have the very best school year!
